Here’s what other people were saying on social media:
National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum ⚾: “With off-the-charts talent and unmatched enthusiasm, Willie Mays was a one in more than a million player. The Say Hey Kid – a two-time MVP, 12-time Gold Glove Award winner and 24-time All-Star – was born #OTD in 1931.”
Michael Baron: “Willie. Howard. Mays. One of the best players ever, if not the best all around player. A great New York sports hero and the same in San Francisco who is a champion and role model. Say hey! Happy birthday.”
@notgaetti: “Today is the birthday of perhaps the greatest all-around baseball player that ever lived. One of the truest five-tool guys, a legend and icon, a fan favorite. If the HOF had an inner circle, he’d be one of the non-negotiable locks for it. Willie Mays, born OTD in 1931.”
Alex Pavlovic: “The Giants and some city officials announced that a portion of the Bay Bridge (basically from Treasure Island to the ballpark) has been renamed the Willie Mays Highway. Today would have been his 95th birthday.”
New York Mets: “Remembering Willie Mays on what would have been his 95th birthday.”
