Cal Raleigh, the Seattle Mariners 28-year-old catcher who had never hit more than 34 home runs in a season in his four big league years prior to 2025, blasted his incredible 59th and 60th homers on Wednesday, propelling his team to a 9-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies at T-Mobile Park that clinched the American League West for the Mariners for the first time since 2001 — and only the fourth in the franchise’s 49-year history.
And then he had something to say about it.
The Mariners clinched a playoff berth the previous night — only their second since 2001 after taking a Wild Card spot in 2022 — and Raleigh, known by the unusual nickname “Big Dumper,” roused the home crowd in his postgame interview by dumping perhaps the most famous line from Major League on the fans.
The beloved baseball movie was released in 1989, seven years before Raleigh was born.
The quote, however, contained an NSFW word — but that seemed to be what the crowd enjoyed most about it.
“Might as well go win the whole f****** thing!” Raleigh implored the crowd on Tuesday night.
Raleigh Goes Back to NSFW Major League Reference
The line is a near-exact quotation from Major League of a line spoken by actor Tom Berenger, which can be viewed in the YouTube clip at this link. Be cautioned, however, the clip from the film, like Raleigh’s rendition of it, is not censored or “bleeped.”
But Raleigh was not finished, and neither were the Mariners.
Again on Wednesday night, after Seattle completed its remarkable comeback — winning the division after trailing the Houston Astros by seven games as late as July 6 — the All-Star catcher struck again.
In his postgame interview celebrating both the Mariners AL West pennant and his own achievement, becoming the first MLB catcher to hit 60 home runs in a single season, “Big Dumper” repeated the famous line.
Raleigh shattered the previous record of 48 hit in 2021 by Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez.

Raleigh’s Quote Already a Bestselling T-Shirt
The local sports apparel company Simply Seattle had already, after Tuesday night, created t-shirts with the phrase emblazoned across the chest. Reportedly the shirt immediately became one of the company’s best sellers.
Raleigh’s father, Todd Raleigh, was at the pennant-clinching game, and told local TV station KIRO that he was surprised that his son quoted the fully uncensored Major League phrase.
One Last Regular Season Goal for Mariners
“I was standing next to his mother and ‘did he just say that?’ And she’s like ‘yes,'” the elder Raleigh told the station. “I guess considering everything that has gone into it. So, I thought, ‘yeah, it’s ok.’ We will have to talk to him about cleaning that up a little bit. I thought for the moment and everything, it was pretty good actually.”
The Mariners finish their regular season with another game against the Rockies, then host the National League West champion Los Angeles Dodgers for a mostly meaningless three-game set to close out their 162-game schedule.
The Mariners do have one last goal to play for in those four games. At 89-69 they stand just one game behind the AL East-leading Toronto Blue Jays, as well as the New York Yankees who are also 89-69 ahead of Thursday’s action, but trail Toronto on a tiebreaker.
Finishing with more wins than the Blue Jays or Yankees would give the Mariners home-field advantage in both the AL Division Series round, and the AL Championship Series if they get there.
