According to Robert Murray of FanSided.com, the Seattle Mariners have agreed on an eight-year, $95 million contract extension with top shortstop prospect Colt Emerson.
Extension season rolls along across MLB! And the next generation of baseball are starting to get paid one by one.
Emerson is Seattle’s #1 prospect and holds an overall prospect ranking of seventh.
“Colt Emerson and the Seattle Mariners are in agreement on an eight-year, $95 million contract extension, sources say. The deal includes a ninth-year club option, a full no-trade clause and escalators that can bring it north of $130 million. Emerson is represented by ACES.”

Mariners Sign Colt Emerson to Eight-Year Contract Extension
Colt Emerson is a 20-year-old shortstop who was drafted in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft.
Like this Colt Emerson and Mariners scenario, the Milwaukee Brewers decided just yesterday to extend Cooper Pratt to a lengthy extension. What makes the situations similar is the fact neither player had made their MLB debut.
Emerson, however, had strong numbers across the minors last season and is one of the best prospects in baseball. Over three levels in 2025, he hit .284 with 16 home runs and 28 doubles. He finished the season with Triple-A Tacoma, but Emerson has played in just nine Triple-A games ahead of this extension. The deal breaks the previous guarantee for an MLB player before they have made their MLB debut.

More on Colt Emerson
This 20-year-old shortstop prospect has all the tools of a strong MLB player. He’s hit at all levels of baseball he’s played, projects well with a 6-foot, 195-pound frame.
Here is Emerson’s MiLB bio:
“Considered one of the best pure hitters in the Minors, Emerson combines a smooth left-handed swing and an advanced approach to be a very dangerous hitter. He finds the barrel consistently and can hit the ball hard with extra-base authority to all fields. He started tapping into his raw power more in 2025, with most of his over-the-fence thump coming to his pull side. He draws tons of walks and doesn’t hurt himself by chasing or swinging and missing much.”
In Emerson’s first season in the minors (2023), he hit .374 with an OPS of 1.074 over 24 games.
Only time will tell how this contract will pan out for the Seattle Mariners, but it’s a recent trend across MLB for organizations to extend their young prospects who have little big-league experience.
One can also assume Emerson might see some playing time with the Mariners this season.
