In a troubling development, the home of Greg Biffle was burglarized just weeks after a plane crash killed the former NASCAR driver and six other people, including members of his immediate family.
The timing of the break-in, occurring shortly after the fatal crash, intensified the sense of loss and vulnerability within the NASCAR community as it continued to cope with the tragedy’s aftermath. Authorities say suspects forced their way into the property and took cash and personal items.
The crime has drawn attention partly because it involved a private estate that had only recently become the site of profound loss, raising questions about whether the burglary was opportunistic in light of the family’s absence. Law enforcement officials say the case remains active and that no arrests have been made as of mid-January 2026.
Burglary reported at the Mooresville estate
The burglary happened on January 8, 2026, at Biffle’s estate on Doolie Road in Mooresville, North Carolina. Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after 6 p.m. after receiving a report of a break-in at the property.
According to WCNC Charlotte reporter Hank Lee, investigators found signs of forced entry at the home. The incident report states that thieves stole about $30,000 in cash and a backpack from the residence. The report listed the victim as Biffle Estates, reflecting the legal status of the property following Biffle’s death.
Law enforcement officials say detectives are reviewing available evidence tied to the break-in. That includes any digital information associated with the property, as well as physical evidence collected at the scene. Authorities have not named suspects or persons of interest. The sheriff’s office has not released details about how the suspects entered or left the home.
Officials confirmed that no arrests have been made. Investigators say they continue to follow leads as they develop and will release updates when confirmed information becomes available.
A deadly plane crash killed seven people.
The burglary followed a fatal plane crash on December 18, 2025, in Statesville, North Carolina. A Cessna Citation II business jet owned by Biffle crashed shortly after taking off from Statesville Regional Airport. Investigators say the aircraft went down about 10 minutes into the flight.
Seven people were killed in the accident, including Greg Biffle, his wife Cristina, their son Ryder, and his daughter Emma. The victims also included family friend Craig Wadsworth, as well as Dennis Dutton and his son, Jack.
Officials have confirmed that someone on board sent a text message to a family member about an emergency landing shortly before the crash. Investigators expect to release a preliminary report, with a final report expected to take 12 to 18 months.
