The Southern 500 at Darlington is always a grind, and Sunday night was no different. Chase Briscoe came out on top once again, but even he admitted it wasn’t easy.

The win marked his second straight Southern 500 victory, and while the results sheet makes it look smooth, Briscoe’s post-race comments told another story, this one pushed him to the limit.

After climbing out of his Toyota, Briscoe reflected on just how hard the battle was.

“At the end, that was way harder than it needed to be,” he said. “Man, what an incredible Toyota. It was fun to be behind the wheel of it, finally. So cool to win two Southern 500s in a row. This is my favorite race of the year, just because every time we come here, the place is sold out, and the atmosphere here is like nowhere else.”

Briscoe called it “a great way to start our Playoffs” and added, “That was a lot of fun. I think this is definitely what we’re capable of doing. We haven’t been able to go out and dominate a race like that. The potential has been there from Day One.”

It wasn’t just another win; it was validation. Briscoe and his team have been building toward this level of performance all year, and to dominate at a track as unforgiving as Darlington sends a clear message: the No. 14 team is ready for a deep playoff run.

“Briscoe also won the Southern 500 in 2024. Tyler Reddick and Erik Jones challenged him late but ultimately followed in second and third,” per Chris Vinel of Florida Today.

Tyler Reddick Comes Close

Tyler Reddick crossed the line in second, and for much of the night, he looked capable of spoiling Briscoe’s celebration. Still, small handling differences made all the difference.

“The one time we got ahead of (Briscoe), we were just a little too tight, and he was able to get back by us,” Reddick explained. “I think we were better than he was on long runs; he could just fire off a lot better. That was the difference tonight. I could get close, but that last run, the balance wasn’t quite as good as it’s been.”

It was still a strong point night for Reddick, but that didn’t erase the sting. “Man, yeah, I really want to win here. It’s frustrating to finish second, going for it. I wish I could have been just a little bit closer.”

For Reddick, Darlington remains the one that got away.

Erik Jones Right in the Mix

Erik Jones, a former Southern 500 winner, rounded out the top three. He felt his car was fast enough to contend, but couldn’t quite make the move when it mattered most.

“I felt like we were probably a little bit better than both of them,” Jones said. “I just couldn’t get the run. I thought I had (Reddick) there with five to go; there was a little bit of a hole, and he filled it.”

“It’s hard to be that close. Would have liked to have had another (Southern 500). We were right there all day, good speed. We need more of that. Hopefully, we keep these cars rolling and get one soon.”

Darlington never fails to deliver drama, and this year’s Southern 500 kept that tradition alive. Briscoe’s back-to-back win gives him major momentum, Reddick walks away with playoff points but plenty of frustration, and Jones shows he’s still a threat.

If this is just the opening act of the postseason, fans better buckle up; the road to Phoenix is already looking wild.
