Ty Dillon played a central role in connecting Cleetus McFarland with Richard Childress Racing, helping shape a new collaboration that blends racing with digital reach. As a veteran in the NASCAR Cup Series, Dillon took the initiative to contact McFarland directly.

He wanted to understand his interest in racing and whether his goals aligned with what the team could offer. The move reflects how the NASCAR Cup Series continues to expand its audience by bringing in personalities with strong followings outside traditional racing circles.

Ty Dillon Explains How the Partnership Started

Dillon said he saw clear potential in combining both audiences while building something that fits within the NASCAR Cup Series environment.

“I think we can make this work. I think it’s going to be good for both sides. His fan base is similar to ours, but we need to bring them together. I think his audience will enjoy what we do, and our fans will connect with him. Together, with NASCAR, we can build something strong.”

He explained that the idea began with a simple, direct approach.

“I called him and said, ‘Hey, what do you think about this idea?’ I know he wants to race in NASCAR, so I asked him about his goals.”

That conversation helped both sides understand what was possible and whether the partnership would be a good fit long-term.

Cleetus McFarland Targets NASCAR Cup Series Future

During their discussion, McFarland shared his interest in competing at a higher level.

“He told me he loves superspeedways and would like to race in the Cup Series one day. He said racing in the Daytona 500 would be a big goal for him.”

That goal connects directly with the NASCAR Cup Series, where events like the Daytona 500 remain central to the sport’s visibility. Superspeedway racing often draws large audiences, making it a natural starting point for drivers looking to build a presence.

The interest in those races also aligns with McFarland’s audience, which is familiar with high-speed, high-energy motorsports content.

Authenticity Remains Key to the Collaboration

Before moving forward, Dillon made it clear that maintaining McFarland’s identity would be essential.

“I told him I’d look into it more and see what we can make happen. I think there’s real potential here, but it only works if he stays true to who he is. We don’t want to change what makes him unique or take away from what he does.”

He also emphasized that the project must remain enjoyable for everyone involved.

“At the end of the day, it has to stay fun. If we’re not having fun with it, then we’re not doing it right.”

The agreement reflects that approach. McFarland will compete in three races per season over the next two years in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with Richard Childress Racing. He will receive a symbolic salary of $1 per year, with the focus on exposure and shared growth.

Dillon said the partnership creates a connection between McFarland’s audience and the NASCAR Cup Series fan base. The move shows how teams are exploring new ways to reach viewers while keeping the sport’s core identity intact.
