Kansas Speedway opened its NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series weekend on April 17, 2026, with two clear developments. Teams completed pre-race inspection without a single issue, clearing all cars for the Kansas Lottery 300.

At the same time, severe weather in the Kansas City area forced NASCAR to cancel all on-track activity for the rest of the day. Practice and qualifying did not take place, leaving teams without track time.

NASCAR confirmed the decision through its official channels, citing unsafe conditions. With no laps completed, officials used the rulebook formula to set the starting lineup, creating a different kind of challenge heading into Saturday night.

Clean Inspection at Kansas Speedway, but No Track Time for Teams

Teams entered the day expecting a full schedule, but conditions changed quickly. Before the weather arrived, the garage completed an inspection for the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series with no issues reported.

Speedway Digest shared the update, “Pre-race inspection in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series garage is complete. There were no issues. Due to the weather in the area, all on-track activity is canceled for the remainder of the day. The starting lineup will be set per the rulebook.”

That clean inspection meant no penalties and no cars sent to the rear. Every team started from the same technical position. In a normal weekend, that would allow crews to focus on practice and dialing in setups.

That opportunity disappeared. Storms forced NASCAR to stop all activity. Officials kept safety first and closed the track for the evening. Teams remained in the garage and were unable to collect data from the surface.

Without practice, crews now rely on past Kansas data and simulation tools. Drivers will start the race without recent feedback on handling or tire wear. That lack of information could affect how the opening laps unfold.

NASCAR Sets Lineup by Rulebook After Washout

With qualifying canceled, NASCAR used its rulebook formula to determine the starting order. The qualifying metric scores, released earlier in the week, became the basis for the lineup.

NASCAR Communications confirmed the decision in a statement: “Due to weather in the area, all on-track activity at Kansas Speedway has been canceled for the remainder of the evening. The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series starting lineup will be set per the rulebook. Carson Kvapil (No. 1 JR Motorsports Chevrolet) will start on the pole.”

The full field includes 37 cars, so every entry will take the green flag. Drivers such as Justin Allgaier, Sheldon Creed, and Sammy Smith will need to work through traffic because of their starting positions.

The race also serves as the second Dash 4 Cash event of the season. Allgaier, Creed, Brent Crews, and Kvapil remain eligible for the $100,000 bonus. Their starting positions add pressure, especially for those beginning deeper in the field.

The green flag remains set for 7:00 p.m. ET on Saturday. The weather is expected to improve, allowing the race to go on as planned. After a disrupted Friday, teams now focus on execution. With no practice laps, drivers must adjust quickly once the race begins.
