Daniel Suarez addressed the heated confrontation between himself and Ross Chastain following the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas. Once teammates at Trackhouse Racing, the two were involved in a post-race altercation at the conclusion of the Pennzoil 400.
Suarez, who now drives for Spire Motorsports, and Ross Chastain weren’t thrilled to see each other on pit road after Sunday’s race. After some heated words and a mild shoving match, the two were separated.
Daniel Suarez on relationship with Ross Chastain: ‘Two-faced on his part’
When speaking to Frontstretch on Sunday in Las Vegas, Suarez was straightforward in recounting what happened on the racetrack between he and Chastain.
“We got together a little bit in corner two and he was mad about it,” Suarez said.
On the cool down lap, Suarez’s No. 7 car and Chastain’s No. 1 machine traded some paint as the latter was expressing his displeasure.
When asked about the post-race confrontation, Suarez could not recall exactly what Chastain. What the driver of the No. 7 did know, however, are that things have not always been smooth between he and the driver of the No. 1.
“He just said something. Our relationship has always been a little weird, almost like a little bit two-faced of his part for some reason. Today, I saw actually what he had in his mind for a while. I don’t have any hard feelings to anyone. I’m doing my thing [and] having a great time,” Suarez said.
Suarez went on to say that it’s “sad that he [Chastain] thinks that way” but added that it’s not his first rodeo.
The Mexican-born driver has endured a lot in his path to the NASCAR Cup Series. Yet, Suarez doesn’t have any regrets, as he knows it’s simply who he is.
“I’ve had to go through a lot to be able to get to this point. That’s the way I am. That’s the journey I’ve had to take to be able to come from a different country, so it’s just part of it,” Suarez said.
Chastain drove to a 17th-place finish in Sunday’s race, while Suarez posted an 18th-place effort. After five races, Suarez is currently 17th in the points standings, with Chastain sitting in 20th.
Daniel Suarez joined Spire Motorsports ahead of the 2026 season
It might have come as a surprise to some to see Chastain and Suarez in a war of words following Sunday’s race. That’s because the two were previously teammates at Trackhouse Racing.
Ahead of the 2026 Cup Series season, Suarez joined Spire Motorsports after he and Trackhouse parted ways following five years together.
In 2021, Suarez joined Trackhouse Racing in the team’s first season on track. One year later, the organization expanded to two full-time Cup cars, with Chastain wheeling the No. 1 car.
In his five seasons at Trackhouse, Suarez secured his two career Cup Series wins. He captured a victory at Sonoma in 2022, and later at EchoPark Speedway in a three-wide photo finish in 2024.
Spire Motorsports is the fifth Cup team Suarez has been a part of. Aside from Trackhouse, Suarez has also driven for Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, and Gaunt Brothers Racing.
