Tricon Garage has rolled out Jimmie Johnson’s paint scheme for this year’s inaugural NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at San Diego street race. The seven-time Cup Series champion is coming out of retirement for a one-off appearance in the No. 1 Toyota Tundra for the event in his home state of California.
Carvana will be on the hood for Johnson’s entry in the race, a sponsor he’s familiar with at his co-owned Legacy Motor Club team in the Cup Series.
Tricon revealed Johnson’s livery for the event via their social media platforms. The colors are the usual light blue and yellow that the 50-year-old has been accustomed to when piloting the #84 Carvana Toyota in the NASCAR Cup Series part-time.
A few of the truck’s designs pay homage to Johnson’s past. One of them includes the lightning bolts down the sides of the truck, which is inspired by Johnson’s 1995 Trophy truck design. The other is the truck’s base design, which is a tribute to Johnson’s 2008 Bristol truck, his sole start in the Craftsman Truck Series.
NASCAR Running Inaugural San Diego Street Race in June
Over the last three seasons, NASCAR has dabbled in running street races. The circuit took to the streets of Chicago from 2023-2025 with the Cup Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series both hosting annual events. It’s been the only time NASCAR has hosted street races.
Shane van Gisbergen won the inaugural event in the Cup Series in 2023 in his first career NASCAR start. Alex Bowman won the following year in 2024, while van Gisbergen followed up with another win in 2025.
This past July, NASCAR announced they would be replacing the Chicago street race with one in San Diego. It is set to be a three-day event from June 19-21, with the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, and Cup Series all taking part.
Jimmie Johnson Returning for Races in Cup, Truck in 2026
Jimmie Johnson stepped away from full-time NASCAR competition at the end of the 2020 season. However, the former driver of the #48 has made part-time appearances behind the wheel since. One of those races will include his entry into the Truck race at San Diego for Tricon Garage.
Johnson will also attempt two Cup Series races for his co-own Legacy Motor Club team. He’ll be behind the wheel of the #84 in this year’s Daytona 500 and in the inaugural San Diego street race, with the latter following his Truck Series attempt that same weekend.
Johnson paired up with fellow seven-time Cup Series champion Richard Petty ahead of the 2022 season to former Legacy Motor Club. The team fields two full-time Cup Series entries. Erik Jones pilots the #43 Toyota, while John Hunter Nemechek is behind the wheel of the #43 Toyota.
Johnson began making part-time appearances in the Cup Series in 2023 in the #84 machine. His best outing was last year’s Daytona 500, where he recorded the team’s best finish of third.
During his full-time career, Johnson drove the #48 for Hendrick Motorsports. Over his 19-year full-time career, he amassed 83 career Cup wins and a record-tying seven championships, alongside Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt.
