All good things eventually come to an end.
For Tyler Reddick, that moment arrived Sunday at Phoenix Raceway during the NASCAR Cup Series race.
After entering the NASCAR Cup Series weekend riding a three-race win streak, the 23XI Racing driver finally saw the run stop in the desert. Reddick did not leave Phoenix empty-handed though. A steady afternoon behind the wheel of the No. 45 Toyota Camry produced a fourth-place finish and one of the strongest points days of anyone in the field.
While it was not a fourth consecutive trip to Victory Lane, the result reinforced something Reddick and his team have built during this stretch of the season. Even when the car is not perfect, they are still capable of finishing near the front.
While it was not a fourth consecutive trip to Victory Lane, the result reinforced something Reddick and his team have built during this stretch of the season: consistency. Even when the car is not perfect, they are still capable of finishing near the front. It’s what keeps championship runs alive.
Reddick’s Win Streak Finally Ends at Phoenix
Coming into Phoenix, Reddick had been the hottest driver in the NASCAR Cup Series. Three straight wins had vaulted him to the top of the standings and put the No. 45 team squarely in the spotlight as the series arrived at one of the most important tracks on the schedule.
Phoenix, however, presented a different kind of challenge.
Instead of dominating the race the way he had during the previous three weekends, Reddick spent most of the afternoon battling an evolving handling balance in the car.
“We just kind of found handling a little bit,” Reddick said after climbing from the car on pit road. “We were just kind of back and forth on which direction we think we need to go with our Camry.”
The adjustments kept the team competitive but never quite gave Reddick the edge he needed to control the race.
Instead, the No. 45 Toyota hovered near the front of the field throughout the afternoon.
“We kind of just hovered around fifth all day,” Reddick said. The series points leader ultimately finished the race eighth.
Late in the race, the team elected to take two tires in an attempt to gain track position. The call briefly put Reddick in position to challenge closer to the front, but the balance of the car began to shift as the final run developed.
“It got a little tight on us at the end,” he explained.
Even so, the performance was far from a disappointment.
Reddick Still Delivers Strong Points Day
While the win streak officially ended at three races, Reddick quickly pointed out that the overall result at Phoenix still checked an important box for the No. 45 team.
“It would have been nice to make it four,” he admitted.
But when he looked at the points scoreboard after the race, the bigger picture became clear.
“Looking at the board over here, we scored the fourth-most amount of points on the day,” Reddick said.
That is the type of result championship contenders aim for when they do not have a race-winning car. In NASCAR’s current format, stacking strong finishes and stage points across the season is critical for maintaining a position near the top of the standings.
Reddick knows that if the team continues producing days like Sunday, the wins will come naturally.
“That’s kind of what we need to just keep doing all year to keep the lead that we have and try and hang on to it,” he said.
In other words, consistency matters just as much as speed.
“If we’re not going to win, these are the kind of days we need to have,” Reddick added. “Glad to get out here with some points.”
Phoenix may have ended the win streak, but the performance showed that the No. 45 team is still firmly in the middle of one of the strongest runs in the NASCAR Cup Series this season.
And if the past few weeks are any indication, it may not be long before Reddick finds himself back in Victory Lane again.
