With their season on the verge of ending, it’s worth pointing out that the Hawks have to make a major decision on one of their most notable players this summer.
Jonathan Kuminga has a team option in his contract for the 2026-27 season that would pay him over $24 million.
He was traded to the Hawks (via the Golden State Warriors) earlier this season.
The 2022 NBA Champion finished the regular season with averages of 12.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest while shooting 46.3% from the field and 33.3% from three-point range in 36 games.
ESPN’s Shams Charania wrote of his contract (on September 30, 2025): “Breaking: Ending a summer-long stalemate, Jonathan Kuminga has agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million contract to return to the Golden State Warriors, agent Aaron Turner told ESPN. The deal has a team option designed for the contract to be ripped up and renegotiated next summer.”

Kuminga’s NBA Career
Despite being just 23, Kuminga is already in his fifth NBA season.
He was the seventh pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
His career averages are 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per contest while shooting 50.2% from the field and 33.2% from three-point range in 294 games.

Kuminga has mixed reviews, as some believe he is a future All-Star.
The Hawks will have an intriguing decision to make.
Trevor Lane of Lakers Nation wrote (on April 20): “Jonathan Kuminga was just the Hawks’ 2nd leading scorer in their biggest win of the season”
