The NBA world is waiting to see what’s next for the veteran guard, Lonzo Ball.
If his outspoken father, LaVar Ball, had his way with the situation, Lonzo would be linking up with LaMelo Ball on the Charlotte Hornets.
It’s not just a wish for convenience’s sake. In LaVar Ball’s eyes, the way that the Ball brothers grew up training basketball with each other, they would be best on the same team, competing at the highest level.

“I never taught them to play by themselves,” Ball said on his podcast.
“A lot of people come up to me and be like, ‘Aw man, them boys are doing good, LaVar.’ I be like, ‘I think they are alright.’ You ain’t never going to see the best out of them until they are all together. Until that happens, you’ll still get this little glimpse. But you haven’t been watching them to play the way I’ve trained them to play. That’s why my expectations of them playing—they can throw that ball so quick while everybody is jogging back.”
For a moment, it seemed the Hornets were willing to offer the Ball brothers an opportunity to unite out in Charlotte. So far, there hasn’t been any real traction behind that idea. LaVar will continue to push for it.
“It could happen! They need to make that move,” Ball said of the Hornets.
“Come on, man! You can ask anybody anywhere. They would become the most-watched NBA team ever. I say that on the fact of the mode that we’re in right now. Folks don’t need ESPN and all these shows now. There’s too much streaming and podcasts, and all this stuff going on. The media attention is there! That’s what I mean by the most watched and the biggest team ever, because of the timeframe we’re in. That allows us to be that.”

To say it’s been a rough few years for Lonzo would be an understatement. A knee injury derailed what was becoming a prolific career. Ball was growing into one of the best two-way guards in the league, and leading a promising Chicago Bulls team that was in the top spot of the Eastern Conference when he first went down.
Ball’s injury occurred 35 games into the 2021-2022 NBA season. At the time, he was averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, while shooting 42 percent from three.
The Bulls wouldn’t get Lonzo back on the court until the 2024-2025 NBA season. His return was applauded, but the season was filled with setbacks and doubt about his long-term future in Chicago, Illinois.
During the 2025 offseason, the Bulls traded Lonzo Ball to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs were hoping to offer him a role on a championship-hopeful squad. Instead, they were ready to cut ties after he appeared in 35 games.
As a member of the Cavs, Ball averaged 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.9 assists. He shot 30 percent from the field and 27 percent from three, after seeing the court for 20.8 minutes per game.
At the 2026 trade deadline, the Cavaliers traded Ball to the Utah Jazz. The rebuilding Jazz waived the veteran guard, leading him to garner interest from several teams. The Golden State Warriors were among Ball’s suitors. The Hornets were in the mix as well, but Ball’s future is certainly unclear as February closes out.
