The Dallas Mavericks established themselves as a Western Conference powerhouse after billionaire businessman Mark Cuban purchased them in 2000. Since his departure, when he sold his majority stake in the organization to businesswoman Miriam Adelson, as well as her daughter Sivan Ochshorn and son-in-law Patrick Dumont, in December 2023, the team has hit a rough patch.
Soon, Cuban could make a multi-million-dollar bid to buy back the Mavericks.
An unidentified investor group from Dallas is interested in partnering with Mark Cuban to purchase the Dallas Mavericks from Parick Dumont, per insider Marc Stein.
“BREAKING: An unidentified Dallas investor group is interested in partnering with Mark Cuban to buy the Mavericks back from Patrick Dumont,” he reported on Monday. “A source close to Dumont told me ‘the family remains excited about the future of the franchise and the Cooper Flagg era.'”
Can Cuban Right the Ship (Again) in Dallas?

While the Mavericks have a few promising pieces, they aren’t nearly the juggernaut they were a few seasons ago when they advanced to the NBA Finals.
This is largely due to the now-infamous trade that shipped Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
Aside from Flagg, the Mavericks don’t have many players that realistically fit into their long-term plans.
Now, roughly a year after trading away the ex-franchise cornerstone Doncic, former team owner Mark Cuban could potentially pull the Mavericks from the depths again.
Before Cuban bought the team, it had only made one Western Conference Finals appearance since its debut season in 1980-81.
Following Cuban’s $285 million team acquisition, the Mavericks rattled off 12 straight playoff appearances, making two NBA Finals appearances during that span.
Cuban, who has remained a minority owner, admitted he thought the trade was a mistake in March, via the “Your Mom’s House” podcast with comedian Tom Segura.
The former Mavericks owner wasn’t thrilled by the return for Doncic, either, as he told WFAA in April 2025.
“If the Mavericks are going to trade Luka, that’s one thing,” Cuban said in an interview with WFAA. “Just get a better deal. No disrespect to Anthony Davis. But I still firmly believe if we had got four unprotected number ones, Anthony Davis and Max Christie, this would be a different conversation.”
Perhaps he can devise a plan to help the team recapture its former glory.
Cooper Flagg Could Make Ownership Reluctant to Sell

For Cuban and the unidentified investor group, purchasing the Mavericks is no easy task.
The current team brass is reportedly enamored with the upside of the former No. 1 pick Flagg. Their devotion to the promising rookie could make them hesitant to relinquish power.
Flagg erupted for a career-high 49 points against Charlotte in January, setting a record for the most points by a teenager in NBA history.
The 19-year-old star is averaging 20.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.2 assists this season. He has scored 30+ points in three of his last four games.
After trading Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards in exchange for three first-round picks, Dumont and the Mavericks appear committed to rebuilding around Flagg.
However, money talks, and Dumont could likely be persuaded to sell for the right price.
Should he open the door for a bidding war, expect former team owner Mark Cuban to be among the first to make an offer.
