You can scratch another potential NBA free agent target off the list for the Golden State Warriors, as their former sharpshooter Klay Thompson won’t be eyeing any reunions with the club after getting bought out by the Dallas Mavericks this offseason.
The Warriors hoped for big names like LeBron James, Thompson, and even Giannis Antetokounmpo once upon a time. Ultimately, the core isn’t changing much.
Golden State still has room on the roster, and the Warriors have to add some players before the start of the 2026-2027 NBA season.
One name that was recently proposed for the Warriors is former Los Angeles Lakers role player Gabe Vincent.

In a rundown of a few free agents the Warriors could and should target before training camp, Vincent was jotted down along with DeMar DeRozan and Bruce Brown. The former player just agreed to join the Denver Nuggets.
“Vincent has always been a player who has come off the bench for the teams he’s played for, and it would be the same situation in Golden State. The Warriors will likely want Stephen Curry and Brandin Podziemski to start in the backcourt, and would want Vincent as a sixth man,” Diego Ortiz of Roundtable Sports wrote.
“His shooting ability could fit in with the offense the Warriors want to run, and he could fit in with Yaxel Lendeborg if they choose to have him come off the bench as well.”

The once-promising prospect with the Miami Heat hit a rough patch with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Gabe Vincent was a classic Erik Spoelstra project in Miami. After playing NCAA ball at UC Santa Barbara, Vincent went undrafted in 2018. He started his career in the NBA G League with the Stockton Kings.
The Heat added Vincent during the 2019-2020 season. By year three, he had 68 appearances, along with 27 starts. In the playoffs, Vincent averaged 23.5 minutes on the court that year. Over time with the Heat, Vincent played a key role.
The Lakers were sold on Vincent’s potential. They invested a three-year, $33 million deal into the ex-Heat guard. In year three, the Lakers knew they had to cut ties.
During the 2025-2026 season, Vincent posted averages of 4.8 points and 1.3 assists, while shooting just 34.6% from the field. He was traded to the Atlanta Hawks, where he closed out the year with 24 appearances. Vincent didn’t help his case in Georgia.
It’s a tough sell for Golden State to give the 30-year-old a chance, but the Warriors are starting to run out of options. With Steph Curry still in the building, Golden State knows they have to stay competitive. An experienced veteran like Vincent at a low cost could be in the cards.
