Kawhi Leonard is listed as questionable for the Los Angeles Clippers' game on Friday, January 9.

Monday night’s game between the Los Angeles Clippers and the San Antonio Spurs didn’t include the All-Star forward, Kawhi Leonard.

Heading into the game, the Clippers downgraded Leonard to probable on the night before the matchup. Hours before the game tipped off on Monday, March 16, the Clippers made the final call. Leonard was ruled out due to a sprained ankle.

When Clippers head coach Ty Lue addressed the media before the Clippers-Spurs game, he told the media that Leonard did not have an update yet. There was no timeline. Therefore, nobody knew what to expect going beyond Monday’s game.

In Leonard’s absence, the Clippers were led by the newly acquired star guard, Darius Garland. The former Cleveland Cavaliers standout checked in for 32 minutes. He scored 25 points while shooting 9-21 from the field.

Garland accounted for a double-double with 10 assists. The Clippers also got a quality scoring outing from Jordan Miller. He scored 22 points on 10-13 shooting from the field in just 26 minutes. Miller was one rebound shy of a double-double.

The mysterious no-update before Monday’s action seemed unfortunate for the Clippers, but the postgame messaging was much better.

The Clippers announced that Leonard is considered to be on a day-to-day timeline. He is expected to make the trip to New Orleans with the team, signaling there is a chance he could be back in action much sooner than most might’ve thought.

When Leonard went out with his ankle injury over the weekend, the veteran forward was clearly in a lot of pain. He didn’t return to the court to help the Clippers try to take down the Sacramento Kings. The Clippers ended up collecting a 118-109 upset loss.

Without Leonard, the Clippers took on two in a row by falling short against the Spurs.

What’s Next For The Clippers?

As the Clippers hit the road on Tuesday, they’ll be ready to take on the New Orleans Pelicans for the first of back-to-back matchups on Wednesday, March 18. The mini-series will close out on March 19.

After two in a row against the Pelicans, the Clippers will pay a visit to the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday, March 21. The Clippers will close out the week in Texas before returning home.

At 34-34 on the year, the Clippers are ranked eighth in the Western Conference. They are currently way behind the seventh-seeded Phoenix Suns, but the Clippers have a one-game lead over the Golden State Warriors, and a 1.5 lead over the Portland Trail Blazers.

It’s unclear what’s next for the thriving–but injured–Kawhi Leonard. However, the fact that the Clippers are bringing him on the trip on a day-to-day timeline is a positive sign that signals he could be back very soon.
