One of the biggest criticisms of Luka Doncic is his conditioning, which has affected his mobility on the court. Doncic seemingly took his health seriously this offseason and has looked phenomenal for Slovenia in the 2025 EuroBasket.

In an interview with Jason Gay of The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar has revealed his new offseason regimen to get in shape. For the first time in his career, Doncic stopped playing basketball for a month to focus on his body and conditioning.

“For the first time, I stopped playing basketball for a month,” Doncic said. “Pure training and fitness. And padel tennis.”

In addition to ditching basketball for a while, Doncic used resistance bands, deadlifts and dumbbells. He also performed agility drills and even hired a private chef to keep up with his new routine that included intermittent fasting.

Gay described Doncic’s summer as the start of the “revenge tour” following his shocking trade from the Dallas Mavericks to Hollywood. It’s a fresh start for the Slovenian superstar, who will enter his first full season as a member of the purple and gold.

Luka Doncic was Superb for Slovenia at the EuroBasket

The 2025 EuroBasket was the perfect opportunity for Luka Doncic to show off his conditioning. Doncic was one of several NBA superstars who participated in the tournament and represented their national teams.

Slovenia got off to a slow start, losing their first two games of the preliminary round against Poland and France. However, they managed to win the final three games over Belgium, Iceland and Israel to finish third in Group D.

In the Round of 16, Slovenia faced off against Italy, with Doncic dropping 42 points, 10 rebounds and two assists to earn the 84-77 win. They advanced to the quarterfinals, facing the reigning World Cup champions, Germany.

Slovenia was in control for the majority of the game, but Germany proved why they were one of the favorites to win the EuroBasket. They overcome a double-digit deficit in the second half to get the 99-91 comeback victory. Doncic had 39 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

For the entire tournament, Doncic averaged 34.7 points, 8.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game. He was named to the All-Tournament First Team, alongside Dennis Schroder, Franz Wagner, Alperen Sengun and Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Luka Doncic Poised for Huge Season with Lakers

While Luka Doncic’s offense looked good as ever, his defense earned high praise during the entire EuroBasket. Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey named the Slovenian superstar as one of its winners from the tournament, which would see him have a huge season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

(Doncic) even received high marks for his defense, something that’s long been the subject of criticism during his NBA career. This tournament was our first test run with the new ‘Skinny Luka’ that debuted earlier this summer. And the way he played on both ends of the floor should have the rest of the league taking notice ahead of 2025-26,” Bailey wrote on September 15.

The Lakers had a busy offseason, adding Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia to their roster. LeBron James also opted into the final year of his contract, entering Year 23 of his career.
