Bam Adebayo didn't hold back on the Miami Heat following a blowout loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Bam Adebayo didn’t hold back his thoughts on the Miami Heat’s recent performances.

The Heat lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves 122-94 on January 6. It was the Heat’s second loss to the Timberwolves in its last three games.

“We have a lot to work on,” Adebayo said. “We have a lot to work on as a team. We can’t lose our focus when somebody makes a run or shots aren’t falling. We have to continue to play our style of basketball.”

The Heat ended the first quarter leading 29-27, before the game started to go downhill. The Timberwolves pulled away in the third quarter, taking a 16-point lead before blowing the game open in the fourth quarter.

“I feel like for us we just have to really concentrate,” Adebayo said. “We’ve gotten to this weird time in the season where it just feels like shots aren’t falling … We just have to dig our way through that.”

Adebayo, who is in an offensive slump, finished the game with just 7 points on 3-11 shooting. Adebayo hasn’t finished with 20 points in a game since December 15 against the Toronto Raptors.

Tyler Herro Made his Return for the Miami Heat

The Miami Heat saw All-Star guard Tyler Herro back in action for the first time in 11 games.

Despite the blowout loss, Herro showed flashes as a playmaker and scorer, finishing the game with 17 points and 9 rebounds in 29 minutes.

“It felt good to be back healthy and back on the court,” Herro said. “Obviously, would have liked to have won the game, but it just felt good to be healthy.”

Head Coach Erik Spoelstra decided to bring Herro off the bench in his return to the court, referring to the move as “just a decision.”

It was just Herro’s third game coming off the bench since the start of the 2023 NBA season.

“It’s cool, not really an adjustment,” Herro said. “Just playing basketball.”

While Herro and the Heat weren’t able to pick up a win in Minnesota, his return to the court is the start of getting back into rhythm and seeing the Heat at full strength.

“Obviously, you want him to go out there and be himself as much as possible,” Bam Adebayo said. “It was good to have him out there, good to hear his voice. He’s another scorer for us.”

Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra’s Thoughts

It’s difficult to find positives in a 28-point loss, and Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra didn’t hold back on his team’s performance.

“We showed less of a spirit in this one,” Spoelstra said. “The one on Saturday, we had a spirit to fight all the way to the end. That’s what is most disappointing to me as the head coach.”

The Heat struggled both offensively and defensively throughout the night. At one point in the night, the Heat were 16-48 on shots inside the paint.

The Minnesota Timberwolves also shot a higher percentage from the field, out-rebounded the Heat and forced more turnovers.

“They just got us into the mud,” Spoelstra said. “We couldn’t keep our pace going … the game was pretty much on their terms the rest of the way.”

It was just the third game this season for the Heat where they didn’t reach 100 points. The other two games came against the Toronto Raptors.
