Despite getting labeled as questionable ahead of their matchup against the Houston Rockets, The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski expects Anthony Edwards to be available.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are still seeking some momentum as they prepare for the NBA Playoffs. An injury bug has hit the franchise at an inconvenient time, resulting in Anthony Edwards missing significant time with a nagging knee injury.

Ahead of Minnesota’s matchup against the Houston Rockets on Friday, the Timberwolves have listed Anthony Edwards as questionable for the contest. However, The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski said that he expects Edwards to be available for the Timberwolves after missing the past three games.

Edwards’ status will be updated closer to tipoff.

Anthony Edwards’ Nagging Knee Injury

Anthony Edwards has been experiencing a right knee patellofemoral pain syndrome, or “runner’s knee.”

The injury is similar to what the Golden State Warriors‘ Stephen Curry experienced, missing 27 games for them before returning on April 5.

Minnesota discovered the injury in mid-March. It’s resulted in Edwards missing 10 of the Timberwolves’ last 12 games. In these games, Minnesota’s superstar has been battling setbacks. Their record has reflected it, going an even 6-6 over the span.

Edwards has tested the injured knee multiple times. In a win over the Dallas Mavericks on March 30, Edwards finished with 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists while shooting 7-for-13 from the field. He would miss the next game and then return in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on April 3. He struggled in the contest, finishing with 8 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists while shooting 3-for-15 from the field.

It appears that if Anthony Edwards is able to return for the Timberwolves, he won’t be playing at full strength. This will be tough for head coach Chris Finch to adjust to, as Edwards is Minnesota’s top scorer this season.

After missing so many games, Anthony Edwards will not be eligible for end-of-season awards for the first time in his six-year career.

Through 60 games (59 starts) this season, Anthony Edwards is averaging 28.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals while having 48.9/39.8/79.6 shooting splits.

Timberwolves’ Full Injury Report vs. Rockets

Minnesota has listed six other players on the injury report for Friday’s matchup against the Houston Rockets.

Ayo Dosonmu will be available while managing a right calf injury.

Naz Reid is listed as questionable while dealing with a right shoulder injury.

The Timberwolves will be without Rudy Gobert (rest), Julius Randle (right hand soreness), Bones Hyland (right hip soreness), and Joe Ingles (personal) for Friday night.

With two games remaining in the regular season, Minnesota has no room to move in the Western Conference standings. The Houston Rockets carry a three-game lead on them, and the Timberwolves are three games ahead of the Phoenix Suns.

The list of injuries to Minnesota’s best players will be something to monitor in the final two games of the regular season.

The Timberwolves are locked into the final playoff spot in the West, the six-seed. It’s a position that Minnesota is very familiar with. In 2024-25, they entered the playoffs as the six-seed and defeated the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Lakers before the Oklahoma City Thunder eliminated them in the Western Conference Finals.
