The current New York Knicks‘ brass can finally call themselves a championship-winning organization. Their culture has proven to be successful, and they will surely continue to put it to the test, as they saw little change going into next year.
As the Knicks start preparing for their title defense, they were recently tabbed as candidates to consider one of the NBA’s latest waive-and-stretch candidates. Cam Whitmore, who was included in the recent Peyton Watson blockbuster, isn’t expected to be in Ohio for long.

According to Cavaliers insider Chris Fedor, there is another move coming for the Cavs. There have been discussions about a waive-and-stretch for Whitmore, who is set to make $5.4 million for the 2026-2027 NBA season.
Whitmore was just traded for the second time in his NBA career, since landing in the league as a first-round pick for the Houston Rockets out of Villanova.
There is a possibility that another NBA team simply picks up his current four-year, $15.5 million deal as is, but if Whitmore clears the wire, the Knicks were urged to give him a look.
The Case For The Knicks To Consider Whitmore

The idea originates from Daily Knicks’ Dan Favale. It’s simple: beyond establishing a championship-winning culture, the Knicks have now proved that they can help reinvent players to some degree. Maybe Whitmore gets the same treatment.
“The Knicks have succeeded in putting Landry Shamet back on the map, reinventing Jordan Clarkson, and turning Mohamed Diawara, a 51st-overall draft pick, into a long-term keeper,” Favale wrote. “For their next bench-player trick, maybe they could get Cam Whitmore’s NBA career back on track. … Given their relative dearth of big-picture prospects, the Knicks should jump at this one if it’s available to them. Let him prove himself inside a championship infrastructure. They have the on- and off-court dynamics to remake him.”
New York’s small forward depth chart is strong. Mikal Bridges, Jordan Clarkson, and Josh Hart are all key contributors for the team.
But Whitmore could be solid depth, learning better habits from a stable club. Pressure was high for the former Villanova star on the Houston Rockets. Over two years with the Rockets, he produced 10.8 points per game, while shooting 35.7% from three.
When Whitmore got into a messy situation with the Washington Wizards, he played in just 21 games off the bench, struggling with his shot and averaging career lows across the board. With the Knicks, there’s no pressure to be better than he is. He can recover from his season-ending setback, and ease his way back in, slowly building his value back up, while on a minimum.
