Following a New York Knicks 111-94 loss against the Houston Rockets, the veteran guard Miles McBride opened up on his return from a notable setback.

“It’s tough having surgery in the middle of the season,” McBride told the New York Post.

“Especially on an area that’s so important to everything you do. So it’s just going to be a learning process. I’m going to figure it out, though.”

On January 27, the Knicks hosted the Sacramento Kings. McBride came off the bench for 29 minutes. After that, he wasn’t seen on the court again until March 29. The Knicks played the Oklahoma City Thunder.

McBride underwent sports hernia surgery. With a two-month recovery in play, the Knicks anticipated a rusty McBride to return. That’s just a natural part of returning to the court after a long recovery.

In his first game back, McBride checked in for a little under 11 minutes off the bench. The veteran guard didn’t make a single shot from the field. Going 0-3, scoring zero points, McBride’s only production came in the form of one rebound, one assist, and one block.

When the Knicks played the Rockets on Tuesday, March 31, McBride played for 12 minutes off the bench. He upped his attempts, taking nine shots on the night. McBride made just one basket.

He finished that game 1-9 from the field for three points. He also logged one rebound, two assists, and one block.

It’s Not Just Miles McBride

The situation isn’t ideal for McBride, but he has a valid excuse for shooting 1-12 over two games. His body is going through a major adjustment.

As for the Knicks as a whole, the entire team is struggling through the current stretch.

After going on a tear, winning seven games in a row, the Knicks fired up a road trip with games in Charlotte, Oklahoma City, and Houston so far. All three matchups have resulted in New York losses.

Heading into the Wednesday night action against the Memphis Grizzlies, some Knicks are viewing the game as a must-win to get back on track. McBride will get the night off as part of an injury management plan.

On paper, the Knicks are seen as a team that should take care of business against a 25-50 squad.

But nothing is guaranteed nightly in the NBA. McBride and the Knicks have some work to do before they reach the playoffs. There are six games to figure it out.
