The New York Knicks are being told to sign one of the most under-the-radar players in the NBA, and he could be a great fit.

The New York Knicks are gearing up for what everyone in the Big Apple hopes is a big 2025-26 season. New head coach Mike Brown is in the fold, and he’ll be heading up a roster of players that includes Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, among other big names.

But, there’s still some room on the Knicks’ roster, and they have to fill the remaining spots with the best players available. While many of the top free agents have already found new homes at this point, some are still available, and there’s one player, in particular, who could bring some star power to the Knicks.

If Brown wants to have the Knicks see their best season in decades and make it to the championship games, then he should target this player who is quietly building some good traction in the league.

New York Knicks Could Add a Solid Player to Their Lineup

So, who do the Knicks need to bring to New York? In a feature published on Tuesday, July 29, for The Daily Knicks, Atticus O’Brien-Pappalardo makes the case that the Knicks should bring Amir Coffey to the Big Apple.

“One name that has seemed to quietly gain some steam recently is Amir Coffey,” O’Brien-Pappalardo notes. “Michael Pina of The Ringer is the latest to mention the possibility of the veteran wing landing in New York.”

As for Pina’s piece, he notes, “Bottom line: This is a dependable NBA rotation player. Why don’t the Golden State Warriors sign him? Or the New York Knicks? Or the Miami Heat? There’s something virtuous in every role player who accepts self-denial as a survival mechanism. That’s Coffey, a professional conformist with skills that accentuate those of his more talented teammates. A good team should sign him.”

So, what would make Coffey a good fit in New York? Pina makes the point that he’s a great three-point shooter, which is something the Knicks could use. He’s an underrated player, but like a known band with underrated hits, he’s not a no-named brand.

O’Brien-Pappalardo seconds that idea, stating, “In today’s NBA, you can never have enough shooting. The Knicks struggled in that department last season, ranking just 27th in 3-point volume. It was clearly an area they entered the offseason wanting to address, as they have already added Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, both of whom can knock down shots from deep.”

Lee Escobedo, appearing on SNY’s The Putback with Ian Begley, has also said that Coffey could be an interesting fit in the Big Apple.

Amir Coffey and the New York Knicks Could Be a Match Made in Heaven

Coffey played in 72 games for the Los Angeles Clippers last season, and he averaged 9.7 points, 1.1 assists and 2.2 rebounds. His numbers are solid, and he’s really one of the strongest free agents still available. Plus, Coffey could add some much-needed depth when it comes to the wings on the Knicks’ roster. Adding an additional wing just seems like a smart thing to do.

The New York Knicks could do a lot worse than bringing Coffey to New York. Get him a one-way ticket as soon as possible, please.
