As the Phoenix Suns continue preparing for their Game 2 matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday, the team provided injury updates to Jordan Goodwin (calf), Mark Williams (foot), and Grayson Allen (hamstring).
The official NBA injury report labeled all three players as questionable for Game 2 on Wednesday.
Williams and Allen sat out Game 1’s blowout loss while dealing with injuries of their own. Each of them has been battling setbacks down the stretch, resulting in both players missing multiple games during the postseason.
Meanwhile, Jordan Goodwin played in just five minutes in Sunday’s loss before exiting with left calf soreness.
Jordan Goodwin Injury Update
Suns’ role player Jordan Goodwin has been one of Phoenix’s top role players in their pursuit of clinching a playoff spot. Goodwin had a 12-point, four-rebound game in the Suns’ loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.
He would level up in the second Play-In game against the Golden State Warriors, finishing with 19 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 steals to help send the Warriors home and advance to the playoffs.
Goodwin’s momentum drew to a close in Game 1 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. After logging just five minutes of game time, Goodwin went down with a calf injury and would never return. The Suns would go on to lose to the Thunder, 119-84.
It’s the same calf that Jordan Goodwin injured on Feb. 21 against the Orlando Magic. The calf strain led to Goodwin missing seven straight games for the Suns before returning on March 10 against the Milwaukee Bucks.
On the bright side, Phoenix Suns head coach Jordan Ott said that Goodwin “feels pretty good” but will “wait to see tomorrow” before giving any more updates.
This is a positive sign for the 27-year-old. His status will be updated closer to tip-off.
Mark Williams and Grayson Allen Injury Updates
Center Mark Williams has only played in one game for the Suns this postseason. He logged 4 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the Suns’ loss to the Trail Blazers on April 14. Since then, Williams has been experiencing soreness in his left foot.
It’s the same foot that Williams suffered a stress reaction to in the third metatarsal back in early March. The injury kept him out for nearly a month before he returned on April 2. The setback is still bothering the Suns’ starting center, and his status will continue to be monitored ahead of Game 2.
Williams’ presence in the paint has been valuable for the Suns when he’s healthy. In 60 games this season, the Duke alum is averaging 11.7 points and 8.0 rebounds while shooting 64.4% from the field.
Jordan Ott labeled the big man as “day-to-day.”
As for Grayson Allen, the 30-year-old sharpshooter has been sidelined since April 10 after sustaining a left hamstring strain. Phoenix has continued to monitor the veteran over the past week and a half, but he hasn’t been cleared to play in a game since suffering the injury.
Ott said that Allen is “definitely making progress,” and he has gone through practice with no limitations on Tuesday.
Nothing is new for the Suns, who have battled injuries to key players throughout the postseason. Although the hope is for the best, Devin Booker, Jalen Green, and team will have to prepare for the worst against the top team in the Western Conference.
