There’s a new name in the NBA scoring record books. Sacramento Kings guard DeMar DeRozan moved into 20th place all time in league scoring passing John Havlicek (26,395) and Paul Pierce (26,397) during a 128-97 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night.

DeRozan now has 26,406 career points, which is sixth-most amongst active players. The 17th year NBA veteran finished the game with 15 points and seven assists in just 24 minutes, adding another chapter to what has quietly become one of the most productive scorers ever.

Still ahead of DeRozan on the all-time list is some elite company. Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James sits atop the list, continuing to extend his lead. Following James is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, and Michael Jordan.

Active players Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Stephen Curry.

The former ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft and six-time All-Star has appeared in 59 games while averaging 18.6 points, 3.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds for the Kings this season. It’s been one of the lone bright spots for the Kings, who have a league-worst 13-47 record

DeRozan spent his first nine seasons whit the Toronto Raptors, who drafted him out of USC. He became the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and led the Raptors to multiple playoff appearances, including an Eastern Conference Finals run in 2016.

During the 2016–17 season, DeRozan averaged a career-best 27.3 points per game while earning All-NBA honors for the first time. He owns numerous Raptors franchise records.

In 2018, DeRozan was traded to the San Antonio Spurs in a blockbuster deal that brought Kawhi Leonard to Canada. The Raptors would go on to win an NBA title. Under Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, DeRozan continued to develop and remained one of the league’s most efficient scorers.

A sign-and-trade then brought him to the Chicago Bulls, where he played for multiple seasons.

In 2021–22, DeRozan earned All-NBA Second Team honors while averaging 27.9 points per game. He also surpassed the 20,000-point mark during his Bulls tenure, placing him in the top 50 scorers in league history and cementing his status among the game’s most durable and consistent scorers.

DeRozan signed with the Kings in 2024. Earlier this season, he eclipsed 25,000 career points, and now has officially entered the NBA’s Top 20 all-time scoring list.
