The San Antonio Spurs are playing against the Portland Trail Blazers in Game 2 of the first round of the 2026 NBA Playoffs in a game that will feature the newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year award winner, Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama won Defensive Player of the Year in historic fashion and is coming off a record-breaking Game 1 in the Spurs’ 111-98 victory over the Trail Blazers.
Now, ahead of Game 2, San Antonio announced their starting lineup and final injury report for their Tuesday night matchup against Portland.
Spurs Starting Lineup For Game 2 Vs Blazers
The Spurs took to social media to confirm their starting lineup for Game 2.
De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Julian Champagnie, Devin Vassell, and Wembanyama all got the nod as starters by head coach Mitch Johnson and his staff.
This is the typical starting lineup San Antonio has used all season when fully healthy. Fox and Castle in the backcourt, and while Champagnie and Vassell might not offer the most size, they pair well as shooters on the wings while Wembanyama mans the paint.
Spurs Injury Report
As has been the case for the Spurs in a majority of their games over the past few weeks of the regular season, the team goes into Game 2 against the Blazers with a mostly clean injury report.
Reserve guard Jordan McMcLaughlin is listed as out, dealing with a left ankle sprain, but he is the only player San Antonio will be missing on Tuesday night.
Wembanyama and Castle had been dealing with lingering injuries in the final week of the season, but since then, they’ve both been fully healthy. Overall, or at least in the past few months, the Spurs’ injury report has stayed short, as while some of their key players missed time earlier in the year, injuries haven’t been as big of an issue for San Antonio compared to other teams around the league.
Portland has just Damian Lillard, who suffered a torn Achilles tendon last season, as the only player on their injury report for Game 2.
Victor Wembanyama DPOY News
Wembanyama was named the Defensive Player of the Year award winner before Game 2 of the Spurs-Blazers series. In what was already a historic season on the defensive end, the 22-year-old Frenchman winning the award marks several major accomplishments.
He is now both the youngest and first-ever unanimous winner of the DPOY award. Wembanyama is also the first player since David Robinson to take home that trophy in just his third season. He also joins Robinson and Michael Jordan as the only players in NBA history to win both awards in their careers, both of which Wembanyama won unanimously.
“Victor Wembanyama is the youngest player to win the Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award,” the NBA wrote on X after the news of him winning the award was announced. “He is also the first player to win the award within his first three seasons since David Robinson (1991-92 with San Antonio).”
The Spurs’ star has also led the league in blocks for three seasons in a row, joining Dikembe Mutombo and Marcus Camby as the only players to accomplish that feat.
Wembanyama had a historic season that was capped off with likely just one of many DPOY awards he’ll win in his career.
His teammate and fellow Spur, Keldon Johnson, was recently named a finalist for the Sixth Man of the Year award by way of averaging 13.2 points and 5.4 rebounds on 51.9% shooting while coming off the bench in all 82 games this season. The winner of that award will be announced on Wednesday.
The Spurs vs Blazers Game 2 tips off on Tuesday, April 21, at 7 pm CST and live on NBC and Peacock.
