Wizards’ Anthony Davis Addresses D.C. Media for First Time Since Trade

The Washington Wizards' Anthony Davis addressed the D.C. media for the first time since the team acquired him in February.

Anthony Davis was traded from the Dallas Mavericks to the Washington Wizards at February’s trade deadline. The deal was made during Davis’ rehab from a left-hand injury that required surgery.

This meant that Anthony Davis never had an introductory press conference. Because he was never available to the Wizards this season, he never spoke with the press for postgame interviews either.

On Monday, following the end of the Wizards’ 2025-26 season, Anthony Davis finally addressed the media for the first time as a member of the franchise.

Anthony Davis Gives High Praise to Wizards’ Long-Term Goals

In Anthony Davis’ first interview as a Washington Wizard, he laid out what he expects from the franchise moving forward.

“They know I want to win. I’m sure they want to win as well. Nobody wants to lose. I think having those conversations and us being on the same page, seeing the direction of the team,” Davis said, according to Chase Hughes of Monumental Sports Network. “The organization is a very good organization. Ted [Leonsis] is a great owner, the coaching staff and the players, their development. Obviously, the city is phenomenal.”

The new Wizards superstar also explained that he is excited to see what’s to come with the organization.

“Coming here, they do things where I don’t want to give away their secrets because I haven’t seen it anywhere else, to be honest. It’s like ‘oh, I’ve never heard of that, I’ve never seen that, but I like it.’ That in itself kind of intrigues me.”

Anthony Davis remained sidelined for the final three months of the regular season after undergoing surgery to repair ligament damage in his left hand. Davis and Trae Young, both acquired by Washington via trade this season, are expected to form the Wizards’ new long-term duo.

Young, 27, played in limited fashion for Washington this season due to a right quadriceps contusion and lower back irritation. Although he has a $48.96 million player option for the 2026-27 season, he is expected to sign a long-term deal with the Wizards this offseason.

Anthony Davis on Wizards Roster: “I Like These Young Guys, Man.”

Anthony Davis also addressed the amount of young talent on the Washington Wizards‘ roster.

“I like these young guys, man. I’m not gonna lie. I feel like they’re all my children. Some of these guys were four and five years old my rookie year, which is crazy. Now I see how [LeBron James] feels,” Davis said.

Players like Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Kyshawn George, and others who are 22 years old or younger have a lot of upside for this Wizards team.

“I would love to see how it feels to play a game in a Wizards uniform,” the former NBA champion said to conclude the conference.

The 2025-26 season is now in the past. This means that Anthony Davis’ contract has one year remaining with a $62.78 million player option for 2027-28. He’s listed as the highest-paid player on the Wizards’ roster. The hope will be that the injuries are behind Anthony Davis as he begins a new chapter in his career.
