Seeking a new contract ahead of the 2025 season, the Tennessee Titans may have found themselves a new wide receiver. One of the Washington Commanders top receiving threats remains frustrated with how the team has handled his extension.
In doing so, Bleacher Report believes the Titans have enough to make a trade. Knowing how much the 2024 Second-Team All-Pro is asking, Tennessee would have to be willing to pay upwards of $30 million per season.
The Tennessee Titans Emerge as an Option for Terry McLaurin
So far, some of the top options for Terry McLaurin have been the Los Angeles Chargers, New England Patriots, and New York Jets. The San Francisco 49ers found themselves in a few lists, but Moe Morton is one of the only individuals to see McLaurin’s future in Tennessee.
The two-time Pro Bowler knows his worth. He’s surpassed 1,000 yards in his last five five seasons. The only time he didn’t do so was in his 2019 rookie season where he finished with 919 yards.
Knowing how valuable McLaurin is to Jayden Daniels, one would expect the Commanders would’ve done everything in their power to keep that duo together. After trading for Deebo Samuel in the offseason, the team may think they have found their replacement.
Morton’s assessment of the Titans is standard. He brought up their release of Treylon Burks and followed it up with, “They didn’t address the receiver position until the fourth round of this year’s draft, taking Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor. Rookie quarterback Cam Ward needs more playmakers at that position.”
Roughly one week ago, Fox Sports named the Titans as a potential landing spot for McLaurin. Their list came out before the former 3rd round pick had requested a trade.
“Calvin Ridley and McLaurin could be a Pro Bowl receiver duo that gives the Titans a chance to compete with teams that field prolific offensive attacks,” Morton added.
Morton sees McLaurin heading to Tennessee for a 2026 2nd round pick and Chig Okonkwo
Knowing how well Daniels meshed with Zach Ertz last season, Morton proposed a package that included a tight end. The Commanders know they won’t be able to get much for a receiver that requires a new contract, which is exactly why he only has the Titans losing a draft pick and their TE.
Chig Okonkwo may be TE1, but Morton sees a path forward in Tennessee without him. The Titans drafted Josh Whyle in the 5th round of the 2023 draft. He had a breakthrough season last year, finishing with 28 receptions for 248 yards. While that’s nowhere near the 450+ Okonkwo has had in his three seasons, it’s a step in the right direction.
“Tennessee may be willing to part ways with Chig Okonkwo, which would be good news for the Commanders, who might want a pass-catcher in a trade package,” Morton said.
He continued, “Okonkwo is a big-bodied athletic pass-catcher who has recorded at least 52 receptions in back-to-back seasons. He could pair up with Zach Ertz to create mismatches in two-tight-end sets on obvious passing downs.”
Morton believes that Okonkwo could be enough for Tennessee to land McLaurin. Knowing how well he’s performed in the past, it’s an intriguing option for the Commanders to consider.
