Ravens Called Perfect Fit for 2-Time NFL Coach of the Year

When it comes to what the best job of the 9 current NFL head coaching jobs is, there’s little debate it’s the Baltimore Ravens.

Of the 9 teams, they’re the only one with a proven, elite quarterback in 2-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson, who is handing the ball to one of the best running backs in NFL history with Derrick Henry. On defense, the Ravens are just a player or 2 away from also being elite.

Who the best fit for the Ravens is as their next head coach is up for a little more of a debate, although ESPN’s Dan Graziano predicts that will be recently fired Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Stefanski was fired by the Browns after 6 seasons and a 45-56 record, including winning NFL Coach of the Year twice, in 2020 and 2023.

“The Ravens know Stefanski from having played against his Browns teams for the past six years (Baltimore was 8-4 against Stefanski-coached Cleveland teams), and Stefanski is a popular candidate on this circuit,” Graziano wrote. “He’s a mid-Atlantic, East Coast guy who would fit in a place like here or New York. Having Lamar Jackson and a winning culture in place makes Baltimore the most appealing landing spot among the current openings. Stefanski had 13 different starting QBs in Cleveland, but he would get a true franchise passer in Jackson in Baltimore.”

Stefanski Behind Worst Sign-And-Trade of All Time

One of the confusing things about Stefanski becoming such a hot candidate in this coaching cycle is that people seem to have overlooked just how terrible the Browns have been the last 2 seasons — they went 3-14 in 2024 and 5-12 in 2025.

It’s also overlooking the fact of how terrible Stefanski has been handling the quarterback position throughout his entire time in Cleveland — including pulling off what should be considered the worst sign-and-trade of all time.

Want to know why the Houston Texans are so good right now? It’s because Stefanski and the Browns gifted the Texans their 2022 first round pick, 2023 first round pick, 2024 first round pick, 2023 third round pick, 2022 fourth round pick and 2024 fourth round pick in exchange for quarterback Deshaun Watson before the 2022 season.

The Browns then signed Watson to the largest fully guaranteed contract in NFL history — and still is to this day — with a 5-year, $230 million contract.

Watson began his tenure with the Browns by serving an 11-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy and in his first 4 seasons in Cleveland he has missed 49 of a possible 68 regular season games, including the entire 2025 season with a torn Achilles tendon.

Actually … Stefanski Might Be Worst Fit for Ravens

Because the key to success with the Ravens is the quarterback position, it’s worth pointing out trading for and signing Watson isn’t the only dumb move he’s made when it comes to the position.

Stefanski was also the mastermind behind drafting 2 quarterbacks in the 2025 NFL draft — Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round — and the ensuing chaos from those moves.
