Don’t expect the Baltimore Ravens to move quickly on hiring their first new head coach in almost 20 years.

What they will move quickly on is sorting through candidates and doing interviews for the spot vacated after Super Bowl-winning head coach John Harbaugh was fired after 18 seasons.

Ahead of the first round of the NFL Playoffs, the Ravens brought in a duo of top AFC assistants for interviews on Thursday, January 8, with another interview scheduled for later in the week and with 2 of those assistants being former NFL head coaches.

“Initial interviews for Baltimore: Ravens are interviewing Broncos DC Vance Jospeh this morning and Broncos QB coach Davis Webb this afternoon for their head coach vacancy,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter wrote on his official X account.

“The Ravens are set to interview Chiefs OC Matt Nagy on Sunday, per The Insiders,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport wrote on X. “A key interview for the coveted spot.”

While Webb is a bit of an unknown, it’s safe to say seeing the names of both Nagy and Joseph will send a cold chill down the spines of most Ravens fans.

Nagy went 34-31 as the head coach of the Chicago Bears from 2018 to 2021, bottoming out with a 6-11 record in his final season. Joseph is an even more miserable option after going 11-21 in 2 seasons as Denver’s head coach in 2017 and 2018.

The Ravens entered the 2025 season as Super Bowl favorites but finished 8-9 overall — including a 1-5 start — and were eliminated from the playoffs with a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular season finale.

Broncos QB Coach Could Be Wild Card Option

Webb is the wild card of that bunch, and perhaps the most intriguing. If he doesn’t land a head coaching job, he almost certainly will be in line for a promotion to offensive coordinator.

The Athletic’s Diana Russini put Webb on a list of NFL position coaches who could be “Leveling Up’ to become coordinators in 2026.

“Several young coaches around the league are generating real momentum as potential candidates for larger roles,” Russini wrote on Saturday, January 3. “Multiple head coaches and assistants have shared strong reviews and belief in a group that includes Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski, Denver Broncos quarterbacks coach Davis Webb and secondary coach Jim Leonhard, Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Brad Idzik and Patriots passing game coordinator Thomas Brown.”

NFL Teams Might Take Chance on Webb as HC

While the move up to offensive coordinator seems like the most likely next step for Webb, there’s a chance the former, longtime NFL backup quarterback could be a head coach in 2026.

If that were to happen, he would miss becoming the NFL’s youngest head coach by just weeks. Davis will turn 31 years old on January 22, which means Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay would still hold the record at 30 years and 11 months old when he was hired in 2017.

“I’ve gotten the sense that teams searching for a HC this offseason could look to interview more outside-the-box candidates, with no clear hot name like Ben Johnson, Mike Vrabel, or Liam Coen out there,” NFL Insider Jordan Schultz wrote on December 23. “One name I’m watching: Broncos QBs coach Davis Webb.”
