The Buffalo Bills will take on the Cleveland Browns in their second preseason game on Saturday, and a handful of their starters aren’t expected to play.
Many Bills starters aren’t playing because they had joint practices with the Browns on Thursday, which gave them a lot of work. However, some of the starters are also injured, like wide receiver Keon Coleman.
Coleman was diagnosed with a sprained foot/toe in the preseason opener vs. the Carolina Panthers last Saturday and has been seen in a walking boot.
A week after the injury, Coleman was still seen wearing a walking boot. Spectrum News 1’s Andy Young took a picture of Coleman on the sidelines before the preseason game against the Browns at Huntington Bank Field, showing Coleman still in the boot.
Coleman is Heading Into a Make-or-Break Season
Coleman is entering his third NFL season. The Bills drafted him in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but he hasn’t shown much production in his two seasons. He has recorded 960 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 26 games.
The 23-year-old receiver did look good in the first preseason game this season. Coleman recorded three receptions for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Bills’ 29-14 preseason win over the Panthers. But the sprained foot/toe could set him back a while.
“Bills WR Keon Coleman diagnosed with sprained foot/toe in preseason opener, per source. Coleman, who was seen in walking boot today, to miss practice time but HC Joe Brady indicated he didn’t have much concern It’s been a strong spring/summer for Coleman. He scored a TD Saturday,” ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe wrote Tuesday on X.
Coleman has faced several injuries throughout his NFL career. He suffered a chipped bone in his wrist during Week 9 of the 2024 season against the Miami Dolphins at Highmark Stadium, causing him to miss four games. He also found himself in a tough spot with former head coach Sean McDermott last season and was even a healthy scratch for a few contests.
The Bills moved on from McDermott this offseason, and now that Joe Brady is the head coach, it could open the door for Coleman to have a better role on the team if he can stay healthy.
Brady Wants Coleman With the Bills
One of the best developments for Coleman this offseason was the Bills’ decision to hire Brady as their head coach. At his introductory press conference in January, Brady made sure to inform the media that Coleman would be a Bill this season.
“I told Keon when I got hired, the best thing that happened to Keon Coleman was me being his head coach,” Brady said, via ESPN’s Alaina Getzenberg. “The day he was officially introduced for his new role. “I was one of the ones that stood on the table for Keon Coleman, and I believe in Keon Coleman.
“He’s going to continue to grow, but the elements that we saw in the draft process — the confidence that I have in him and his ability — and as long as he’s handling what he needs to do off the field, I have no doubt that he’s going to be successful on the field.”
It does feel like Brady has a lot of confidence in Coleman, and hopefully he will be back on the field in no time.
