The Buffalo Bills have a number of key players who are trying to get healthy in time to take the field in Sunday’s playoff game, but one important member of the offense could be headed in the wrong direction.
The Bills announced on Saturday that running back Frank Gore Jr. would be elevated from the practice squad, a sign that the team is worried about Johnson’s status for Sunday. Gore spent the entire season on the practice squad as the Bills maintained a healthy running back room, not losing any games to injury for either of their three backs.
But Gore’s elevation could point to a shorthanded backfield for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars.
Ty Johnson Showed Positive Sign as Week Ended
Johnson had missed the team’s practices on Wednesday and Thursday, but showed a positive sign as he was able to participate on a limited basis on Friday. There was some hope that he could play, as the Bills ruled out several players — including cornerback Maxwell Hairston and wide receiver Joshua Palmer — but listed Johnson as questionable on the final injury report.
Gore has been on Buffalo’s practice squad since joining the team as an undrafted free agent last year. He was elevated to the active roster one time in his rookie season, but remained inactive for a win over the New York Jets.
Gore is the son of longtime NFL running back Frank Gore, who played for the Bills in the 2019 season and played in the team’s wild-card round loss to the Houston Texans.
