It’s no secret that the Buffalo Bills have struggled on offense this season, and some of that has to do with the play of the wide receivers.
The Bills have struggled with their receiving corps due to injuries and underwhelming performance, and the front office didn’t make any moves to address this issue during last month’s NFL trade deadline.
Last week, the Bills signed veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks, and they may be seeking to bring in another seasoned receiver before the playoffs. However, they missed the opportunity on Tuesday.
On Monday, the Minnesota Vikings officially released veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen after he requested a release from the team.
The Steelers Claimed Thielen
Thielen managed just eight receptions for 69 yards over nine games this season. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers picked him up off waivers on Tuesday.
If the Bills were looking to add Thielen to their active roster, they may have missed their chance, but who knows who else could become available as the season progresses.
The NFL has entered the last month of the regular season, which means that teams will start looking ahead to the future. Some teams with young players who are out of the playoff race may part ways with veterans to create more playing time for their younger talent.
Buffalo should hold off for now and see if any other wide receivers become available. The Bills could then sign them to the active roster or the practice squad.
The Bills Need to Draft a Wide Receiver in 2026
Even if the Bills manage to bring in another receiver in the coming weeks, they still need to focus on strengthening the position in the 2026 NFL Draft.
There is a load of great receivers entering the draft, and the Bills should look to use a first-round pick on one.
CBS Sports’ Ryan Wilson made a mock draft on Monday and has the Bills drafting Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson in the first round.
“Tyson is an explosive receiver with the size, speed, and catch radius to win at all three levels. A smooth hands-catcher, he consistently makes contested and high-point grabs look effortless while creating surprising separation at the top of his routes for his size,” Tyson wrote. “Tyson can hit top end in just a few steps and shows the type of short-area quickness reserved for smaller, shiftier WRs. He’s also an asset in the screen game, making him a dynamic threat both outside and from the slot.”
Tyson has been at Arizona State for the last three seasons after spending his first year at Colorado. Tyson has recorded 61 receptions for 711 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games this season.
The Bills need to find a true young No. 1 wide receiver to pair with quarterback Josh Allen for the next 10 years, and Tyson could be that player.
Buffalo should concentrate on making a strong push for the playoffs and aiming for the Super Bowl this season. However, it’s also important for the Bills to pay close attention to potential draft picks in April, as they need to take them into account.
