The Buffalo Bills have already made one big trade to boost their wide receiver room, and could have a chance for another — as long as they’re willing to wait a bit.
The Bills landed deep threat DJ Moore from the Chicago Bears, giving quarterback Josh Allen a potential new No. 1 receiver. The Bills have also been connected to San Francisco 49ers receiver Brandon Aiyuk, whose team just shared more details about when he could be traded.
Brandon Aiyuk Hitting the Trade Block, But Not Soon
The 49ers have already made it clear that they will be moving Aiyuk, with general manager John Lynch saying after the season concluded that he won’t be back after their relationship had fractured beyond repair.
Lynch revisited the Aiyuk trade this week, saying the team is not likely to trade Aiyuk before the NFL draft on Thursday.
“I’ve had some discussions,” Lynch said, via KNBR. “Do I think it’s a high probability? Likely no. Is there a chance? Yeah.”
As Bleacher Report’s Doric Sam added, the 49ers have already made it clear that they’re taking their time to find the right trade return. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters at league meetings that they are confident it will happen at the right time.
“I don’t have a date for it,” Shanahan said. “But I know eventually it’ll resolve itself. Hopefully, we could get something for [him]. And I know we’re in no rush to do that.
Bills Urged to Trade for Brandon Aiyuk
The Bills have been pegged as a likely destination for Aiyuk, whose relationship with the 49ers fell apart not long after he signed a massive extension. Jarrett Bailey of The Sporting News suggested last month that they might be able to land him for a pair of fourth-round draft picks.
“Aiyuk is coming off an ACL injury, and the 49ers are reportedly open to trading the star receiver just one offseason after signing him to a four-year, $120 million extension,” Bailey wrote. “His cap hit in 2025 is just over $11 million, which Buffalo can afford with a few easy contract restructures and cuts. And while the “everyone eats” mentality is something the Bills embrace, they still need a true No. 1 separator on the outside, which Aiyuk would provide them with.”
The Bills struggled in the passing game at times last year, with the wide receivers often failing to get separation and opposing defenses ramping up pressure on Allen as a result.
The team made some changes beyond adding Moore, cutting ties with oft-injured veteran Curtis Samuel, but there are still other decisions to be made. That includes Brandin Cooks, who joined the team in December off waiver wires and quickly became a top target for Allen.
The Bills must also make a decision on Keon Coleman’s future. He struggled to replicate the production of his rookie season and was benched twice for disciplinary reasons. Coleman became a point of contention after the team fired head coach Sean McDermott, with owner Terry Pegula blaming McDermott for his selection in 2024.
