Brandin Cooks has played with his share of quarterbacks during his 12-year NFL career.
Few, if any, compare to the one he currently calls his teammate.
Josh Allen turned in another big performance in the Bills’ 27-24 Wild Card win over the Jaguars on Sunday, completing 28 of 35 passes for 273 yards while accounting for three touchdowns (1 passing, 2 rushing).
Afterward, Cooks, who had three catches for 58 yards, heaped praise on the Bills’ star quarterback.
“It’s awesome. At the end of the day, that’s greatness right there,” Cooks said, via the team’s website, of Allen. “You always feel that you’re in it no matter what when you’ve got (Allen).”
Allen Battled Multiple Injuries in Playoff Win
Trailing 27-24, Allen scored on a 1-yard run with 1:04 left to cap a nine-play, 66-yard drive. Cole Bishop intercepted Trevor Lawrence on the first play of Jacksonville’s next possession, punching Buffalo’s ticket to the AFC divisional round.
The reigning NFL MVP threw a 15-yard touchdown to tight end Dalton Kincaid earlier in the fourth quarter and had a 2-yard scoring run in the first half.
This is despite dealing with multiple injuries. Allen was evaluated for a concussion in the first half and has been hampered by a foot injury.
Buffalo (12-5) will visit the top-seeded Broncos (14-3) in the divisional round on Saturday (time to be announced).
Coaches Marvel About Allen’s Abilities
Bills head coach Sean McDermott continued to marvel at Allen’s toughness, telling reporters his attitude trickles down to teammates.
“When your quarterback’s that type of warrior, that type of competitor, from a leadership standpoint, it just goes through the whole team,” McDermott said, via The Athletic.
On the opposite sideline, the Jaguars’ Liam Coen dished a similar compliment about Allen.
“Such a competitor,” Coen said, via Syracuse.com. “He was spitting it out pretty good, obviously. Scrambled enough times, but he just kind of drifted away, knowing he’s going to get hit, making a play.”
The Bills have now won at least one playoff game in six consecutive seasons under McDermott.
