Maxx Crosby has made a definitive statement about his future, shutting the door on any lingering speculation that the Buffalo Bills could make a run at him.
The Bills had been one of the teams in the running to land the Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher before his team agreed to terms on a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. That trade blew up this week after the Ravens balked at the results of Crosby’s physical, sending the star player’s future into doubt.
Though there had been some chance for the Bills to re-engage, Crosby now appears to be staying put in Las Vegas.
Maxx Crosby Won’t Be Coming to Buffalo
Crosby took to social media late on Wednesday to confirm that he’ll be returning to the Raiders for the 2026 season.
“Everything Happens For A Reason,” Crosby shared in a post on X. “Believe Nothing You Hear & Half Of What You See. I’m A Raider. I’m Back. Run That Sh*t.”
Insiders already believed that the Bills dropped out of the running prior to Crosby’s statement on Wednesday, however. NFL Network insider Cameron Wolfe said the Bills decided not to make a second attempt at a trade after their first one had been rejected.
“The cap situation may be too difficult to make it work… what they may have had a few weeks ago is not what they currently have,” Wolfe said, via SI.com’s Alex Brasky.
The move does bring some partial benefits to the Bills, keeping Crosby off an AFC contender and sending him back to the AFC West, where he will face the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes twice a season.
Bills Miss Another Top Target
While the Bills were rumored to be in the mix for Crosby, they were also connected to another star edge rusher who has gone off the board. Shortly after pulling out of the Crosby trade, the Ravens landed former Cincinnati Bengals pass rusher Trey Hendrickson.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that the Bills were deep in the mix for Hendrickson before the Ravens, motivated after backing out of the deal to land Crosby, became motivated to sign him.
“The Colts, Bills, Bucs, Commanders and Eagles all were involved in Trey Hendrickson’s free agency before the All-Pro agreed to terms with the Ravens, per sources,” Fowler shared in a post on X. “The Colts felt like they were close at one point. The Eagles got involved late. Tampa pursued but on a short-term deal. Hendrickson wanted a long-term deal with a contender. Buffalo fit that mold. But Baltimore put it over the top Tuesday night.”
The Bills moved on seamlessly, signing former Miami Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb to a three-year deal that will give their pass rush a boost. The signing gives the Bills a veteran edge rusher, and could also make it more unlikely for Joey Bosa to return to Buffalo and reprise his role in 2026.
The Bills could still add more young firepower to their edge rushing group, with many analysts predicting they will use their first-round pick on a pass rusher.
