The Buffalo Bills instantly received speculation about being a potential trade suitor for Cleveland Browns superstar Myles Garrett after his contract news broke on Thursday.
After modifying the language of his contract, the Browns have an open window to trading Garrett should they choose to do so. While they don’t appear to have any intention of doing so, teams could come calling and change their mind.
Keeping that in mind, the Bills could be a prime destination to watch.
Buffalo has now been named as one of the top potential trade fits for Garrett. Fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, but the Bills should at least place a call to Cleveland.
Buffalo Bills Named Top Trade Fit for Myles Garrett
Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr has suggested Buffalo as one of the logical trade suitors for Garrett if the Browns open up to moving him.
“Opening a new stadium has a way of forcing a team to punch the accelerator. While Bills fans seemingly need no incentive to support the franchise and have been surviving on heartbreak and provisions stored in the bitter cold snowfall permanently located in their backyards, a Garrett trade could be both a major gift to new head coach Joe Brady and defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard, and a way to ensure that neither tank during their first season, making the impulsive firing of Sean McDermott look ridiculous after McDermott turned the program around,” Orr wrote.
“The Bills already moved on Bradley Chubb this offseason, but have been perpetually trying to solve their pass-rushing issues via the veteran market due to late draft picks year after year.”
Adding a player like Garrett can make a good defense elite. That is what the Bills would be targeting if they chose to get involved in pursuing a trade for him.
Myles Garrett Is One of the Best Pass Rushers of All-Time
Since coming into the NFL as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by Cleveland, Garrett has played in 134 games across nine seasons. He has totaled 412 tackles to go along with 125.5 sacks, 23 forced fumbles, six fumble recoveries, and 18 defended passes.
Last season, Garrett broke the NFL’s single-season sack record.
Acquiring Garrett would likely require three first-round picks. Whether or not that price tag would scare Buffalo away or not remains to be seen.
It’s important to remember that the Browns are signaling they aren’t interested in trading Garrett. All that the Bills could do would be to call and try to come up with a trade package that would force Cleveland to reconsider its stance.
Expect to continue hearing rumors and speculation about Garrett’s future. Buffalo will almost certainly be a part of those rumblings.
