Carolina Panthers Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn will miss Wednesday’s joint practice with the Cleveland Browns after being involved in a car accident this morning outside of Bank of America Stadium, according to a Panthers team spokesman’s statement on the team’s website.
According to the spokesman, “Horn was alone in his car when the incident occurred at the corner of Mint and Morehead Street.” Nobody involved in the accident required transportation by emergency medical personnel.
The Panthers’ medical team has evaluated Horn, and they determined the best course of action was for him to sit out practice today.
Horn Wants to be All-Pro
This accident could be a setback in Jaycee Horn’s lofty goals to become an All-Pro this season. Horn signed a four-year, $100 million contract this offseason, with $72 million guaranteed, making him the highest-paid defensive back in the league at the time. Sauce Gardner and Derek Stingley Jr. have since surpassed the deal. With the high contract comes high expectations, and Horn is trying to live up to them.
Speaking with Kay Adams on her show “Up & Adams,” Horn discussed his goal of wanting to be an All-Pro this season.
“I think I had a solid year last year,” Horn said. “I feel like I still left a few plays out there, but definitely honored to make my first Pro Bowl. I’m trying to go All-Pro and keep getting better each and every year. I think I got more room to grow.”
Last season, Horn made the Pro Bowl, putting up a statline of 68 tackles, two sacks, 13 passes defended, and one interception. Horn not only has lofty goals for himself, but also for the team.
Horn Doesn’t Want a Repeat of 2024
While Jaycee Horn had a successful 2024 season, the same could not be said for the rest of his teammates on the Panthers. Last season, the team ranked last in the league in points, yards, yards allowed per play, and first downs surrendered.
Horn in July spoke to Panthers’ team website writer Darin Gantt and discussed how the team can not repeat the mistakes of 2024 in 2025.
“We don’t need to be anything close to that,” cornerback Jaycee Horn said. “You kind of want to throw it out of your mind because it’s a new season, but at the same time, it’s on the back of your mind too, because that should be really all the motivation you need to come back to camp. You don’t want nothing like that to happen again. It was a lot of injuries and a lot of stuff of that nature, but at the same time, the stat book is what it is. Like, we weren’t a good defense last year, so this year we just have to go even harder than we did last year.”
Horn is ready to move forward this season and not only step up his game as a player, but also as a leader, especially after now becoming the Panthers’ highest-paid player.
The accident this morning, luckily, appears only to be a minor setback for Horn, and hopefully, he will be able to return to practice in the coming days.
