Former Chicago Bears tight end and FOX Sports broadcaster Greg Olsen announced some devastating news.
His other brother, Chris Olsen, passed away at the age of 42, he shared on an Instagram post on Thursday.
Chris, who was two years older than Greg, battled glioblastoma, an aggressive form of cancer in the brain. According to the National Cancer Institute, glioblastoma is “a fast-growing type of central nervous system tumor that forms from glial (supportive) tissue of the brain and spinal cord and has cells that look very different from normal cells.”
Greg Olsen’s Message Regarding Older Brother Chris Olsen
In the post on Instagram, Olsen mentioned how, despite cancer taking away his brother, it “could never take Chris’s spirit for life.”
“It is with great sadness that I share this update. Despite fighting with every ounce of his being, my older brother Chris has lost his battle with Glioblastoma. This terrible disease took many things, but it could never take Chris’s spirit for life.
These past few weeks, people came from all over the country to Little Rock to share Chris stories. We laughed. We cried. We remembered a larger than life personality who made everyone feel his love. More importantly, he was able to feel the love and impact he made on countless people over his 42 years.
Our family is devastated. Everyone could take a lesson on how to live life from Chris. I ask that everyone says a prayer for his amazing wife Lindsay. She was his life. He was her “Lovie.” On behalf of our entire family, we thank everyone for their continued prayers and love. We have felt it. Love you brother ❤️”
Greg received responses from numerous members in the NFL community.
“Praying for you brother 🙏🏼❤️” @christianmccaffrey
“Love you Greg❤️” @gkittle
“Love the Olsen family and Chris so much. Here for you always” @erinandrews
“Sincerest condolences” @adamschefter
“Prayers for the Olsens- love you all so much. Chris was always smiling, pure joy. He certainly will be remembered that way. ❤️” @kevburkhardt
The heartfelt messages he received on the post didn’t stop there, but it was evident that Chris was loved by so many people.
More on Greg and the Bears
Olsen is a strong believer in Bears’ head coach Ben Johnson, saying, “Ben Johnson was the guy for the job,” before the start of the 2025 season. And despite Johnson not winning Coach of the Year, it’s evident his impact has transformed the Bears’ organization.
Now, could Olsen ditch FOX Sports to join the Bears? He told ESPN Chicago that “I would put my experience in NFL circles up with anybody for the last 20 years.”
Olsen also mentioned he would consider a front office or coaching role with the Bears. Maybe in the near future. But for now, thoughts and prayers go out to Greg and the rest of the Olsen family.
