Aaron Rodgers and Shedeur Sanders exchanged a few words after the Cleveland Browns upset the Pittsburgh Steelers.
With a big assist from his defense, Sanders helped propel the Browns to a 13-6 victory against the Steelers. Sanders passed for 186 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.
After the game, the two met at midfield for a quick embrace and exchange of words, which was caught on video by Well Off Media, run by Deion Sanders Jr.
“Good job man,” Rodgers said. “I’m proud of you. Happy for you man.”
Before the game, Rodgers shared that he’s been a fan of Sanders and has followed his journey.
“I’ve followed Shedeur’s career, like any football fan who watched him go from Jackson to Boulder. And being a former Pac-12 school, I was pulling for him,” said Rodgers, who played at Cal. “You know, there was a tough draft slide; obviously, much longer wait than mine was. But it seems like he’s been patient, and he’s worked on his craft, and he’s been playing pretty good the last few weeks.”
Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Not Happy After Win
Sanders came out strong but struggled in the second half. Despite picking up the win, Sanders said he expects more from himself and the offensive unit as a whole.
“It felt good getting a win overall and especially with the team we won against. I think it’s been bittersweet because I feel like the offense, we got to do our part,” Sanders said. “I got to do my part a little bit more, we can’t be happy with only 13 points on the board. So, we just got to be able to put up more points.”
The victory was Sanders’ first in front of a home crowd. He moved to 2-4 as the starter, his other victory coming in his debut against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“It’s extremely exciting to get the win at home, for sure. I’ve been needing to win at home for a minute, so that’s what’s good,” Sanders said. “That’s what I’m excited for, that we brought that feeling back in this place.”
Browns Have to Make Decision on Shedeur Sanders’ Future
Sanders has one final opportunity to make his case as the Browns’ long-term answer at quarterback. He’s thrown for 1,289 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season. It’s production that has shown flashes, but not enough certainty to quiet the debate.
Complicating matters, Cleveland holds two first-round picks in the upcoming draft, including one that will land inside the top 10. With that level of draft capital, the organization must soon decide whether Sanders has done enough to be viewed as the future or if a higher-ceiling option awaits in April.
Sanders has been mostly mum on his thoughts on being the franchise quarterback, taking it one week at a time as he looks to establish himself. He’ll take on a Cincinnati Bengals defense in Week 18 that ranks dead last in the league, giving up 392.2 yards per game. The Browns are a 7.5-point underdog for the matchup, per ESPN.
