The Cleveland Browns are still looking to hire their next head coach, as the search has been going on for quite some time.
Cleveland has seen multiple candidates withdraw from their interest, which has been interesting. Part of the reason why was a report that the Browns are making all the candidates write an essay and do homework as part of the interview.
Yet, NFL insider Aditi Kinkhabwala of CBS Sports reports that the team never made any coaching candidate write an essay.
“There is clearly a lot of misinformation out there,” Kinkhabwala said on 92.3 The Fan. “I have been told that no candidate was asked to write an essay to apply for this job. The way I was told it, there was a five-question questionnaire. That sort of took care of a lot of things, saved a bit of time. No, I’m applying to Harvard, and I need to write a personal statement essay. However, the Browns have been very thorough.
“They had a coach that everybody in the building agreed was a good man and had moments of success. Kevin Stefanski got a job right away, but it still wasn’t a fit. My sense is what I have learned and the process is that they’re trying to be intentional in making sure that ownership, GM, HC, are all on the same page in terms of organization building.”
Kinkhabwala believes the Browns knew they would take a long time, as the team wanted to make sure they hired the right coach and right fit.
Browns Making HC Candidates Write an Essay Wasn’t True?
Cleveland’s head coach search has been an intriguing one, and it was reported that they were making candidates write an essay.
NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero broke the stunning news on how serious the Browns’ head coach search has been.
“The Browns’ search process is unlike any other in the NFL, and it plays to certain types of candidates,” Pelissero said on The Rich Eisen Show. “They are a data-driven operation in Cleveland. They spend an extraordinary amount of time gathering data on their coaching candidates. You’re talking about taking a personality test, about writing an essay. You’re talking about completing homework assignments between the first and second rounds of interviews.
“It plays toward the types of candidates that they have in the mix, which is very smart people. Questionnaires, a multi-part essay, and a personality test — and additional homework assignments if you get through the first round and into the second round.”
Yet, it appears the Browns didn’t make any candidate write an essay, according to Kinkhabwala.
