Quinshon Judkins’ mother posted an update on the Cleveland Browns running back after he underwent surgery following a gruesome injury against the Buffalo Bills.
Judkins went down at the end of the first half and the CBS broadcast declined to show a replay of the play due to the graphic nature of the injury. He was carted off the field and the Browns quickly announced that he suffered a fractured fibula and dislocated ankle.
Judkins underwent surgery on Tuesday, and his mom, Teva Judkins, provided an update from the hospital.
“Quinshon’s surgery day. Looking forward to recovery and seeing him back to 100! So grateful for the prayers, love, and support,” Teva Judkins wrote on X. “Shoutout to the Browns team and medical staff for taking care of him and us….It means so much.”
She previously posted a message about her feelings following the injury.
“As I watched him lie on the ground, my heart stopped. As football moms, we always know that there is a possibility of an injury but when it actually happens, you are not prepared for the flood of emotions you feel,” Teva Judkins said. “This was Quinshon’s 1st major injury ever so I am very thankful that I was there and am here to support him as a mom!!! This too shall pass and Q will be back out there busting into the end zone soon.”
It’s been reported that Judkins’ timeline to return to the field is 4-5 months, putting him back on the field when the Browns start their preparations for next season.
Quinshon Judkins Injury Jarring for Browns Teammates
Judkins will finish his rookie season with 827 rushing yards on 230 carries and seven touchdowns. While his 3.6 yards per carry won’t jump off the page, the numbers came behind a patchwork offensive line that rarely gave him clean lanes. Despite that, Judkins proved he can handle a heavy workload and profile as the Browns’ workhorse moving forward.
His rookie year didn’t start smoothly. Judkins missed training camp and the preseason due to an off-field issue, putting him behind the curve early. But he earned the trust of the locker room as the season went on, making the reaction to his injury all the more telling. His teammates were visibly devastated when he went down.
“It really hurt that Quinshon went down,” Browns QB Shedeur Sanders said. “That was my only option, you know. So I feel bad because I threw it. But, yeah, truthfully, it hurts. It hurts.”
Browns offensive guard Joel Bitonio echoed a similar statement.
“He’s my guy man, he’s my locker guy back in Berea. He works hard and he just loves ball,” Bitonio said. “To see a guy go and get hurt at that point is just unfortunate. Hopefully whatever it is he recovers quickly and he can get back. He’s young and hopefully everything heals quickly. When you see a guy go down like that it sucks, it’s the worst part of the game.”
Browns Shorthanded Following Quinshon Judkins Injury
The Browns are very shorthanded at running back for their final two games. Judkins and veteran Jerome Ford are done for the year. Rookie Dylan Sampson has missed the last two games with a calf injury and his status is uncertain.
If Sampson remains out, the Browns will rely on Trayveon Williams and Raheim “Rocket” Sanders to propel the running game against the Steelers. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski is confident they can carry the load.
“Both guys really understand what we’re doing with our schemes,” Stefanski said. “Rocket had a couple hard yards in there where he ran between the tackles, kept his legs moving. Obviously, Trayveon made some plays in the pass game as well. So, we’re counting on those guys, and we’ll be counting on them this week as well.”
The Browns host the Pittsburgh Steelers this week. They’ll wrap up the season on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals.
