Shedeur Sanders drew plenty of attention and support after sharing a social media post following the Cleveland Browns’ upset win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Sanders threw for 186 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions in the victory, then celebrated by posting a photo carousel from the game. He didn’t include a caption, but the post quickly gained traction, racking up more than 200,000 likes and thousands of comments from fans.
“The people’s quarterback,” one fan wrote.
“I’ve never watched football a day in my life. Don’t even understand the game,” another commented. “I just hold my wrist up when I see the crowd holding their wrist up. Now I’m in front of the TV after church every Sunday just because of you.”
“Became a Browns fan for you, fam,” another fan added. “You’re doing ya thang.”
Browns Impressed by Shedeur Sanders
Sanders has gone 2-4 as the starter since taking over for Dillon Gabriel. He’s had some ups and downs, passing for 1,289 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. But Sanders’ growth has impressed his coaches.
“Continuing to make great strides with making decisions with what he sees has been very impressive,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “The pocket movement, the ability to make plays with his feet has been impressive.”
Sanders has been a harsher critic of his work, particularly against the Steelers.
“It felt good getting a win overall and especially the team we won against. I think it’s been bittersweet because I feel like the offense, we got to do our part,” Sanders said. “I got to do my part a little bit more, we can’t be happy with only 13 points on the board. So, we just got to be able to put up more points.”
He was able to pick up his first home victory, which was a big boost for the team morale and Sanders personally.
“It’s extremely exciting to get the win at home, for sure. I’ve been needing to win at home for a minute, so that’s what’s good,” Sanders said. “That’s what I’m excited for, that we brought that feeling back in this place.”
Browns, Shedeur Sanders Heading Into Offseason of Uncertainty
With one game left on the schedule, the Browns will get a final look at Shedeur Sanders as he tries to solidify his case as a long-term option at quarterback. Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot said the rookie has shown encouraging traits but still has a clear area that needs refinement.
“I don’t necessarily think that the Bengals game is going to make or break him,” Cabot said during an appearance on The Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show. “But here is one of the reigning things I think about Shedeur Sanders: He loves those explosives and to throw the ball deep. But he’s got to find the balance between the explosive shots and not making the poor decisions. That has to be the next step in his development. If he can do that, he’s got a lot of good things to build on.”
Uncertainty extends well beyond Sanders. Stefanski’s future in Cleveland remains unclear, with the head coach widely viewed as being on the hot seat. If the Browns ultimately decide to move on, it would introduce yet another layer of instability that could directly affect Sanders’ outlook with the franchise.
