The Cleveland Browns have a Pro Bowl quarterback.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Monday that the NFL is set to name Shedeur Sanders to the Pro Bowl.
“Sources: Browns QB Shedeur Sanders has been added to the Pro Bowl roster as a replacement. Sanders is the first 5th-round rookie to make a Pro Bowl since Puka Nacua,” Schultz wrote.
Sanders will be replacing New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye, who’s playing in the Super Bowl, making him ineligible for the Pro Bowl.
It is a bit of a surprise to see Sanders be named to the Pro Bowl as the rookie quarterback only appeared in 8 games, and started seven. He finished the year throwing for 1,400 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions as he took over for Dillon Gabriel.
Although Sanders is named to the Pro Bowl, his future as the Browns’ starting quarterback is in doubt entering the offseason.
Cleveland selected Sanders 144th overall in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He had a major slide during the draft as the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback had hoped to be a first-round pick.
The Pro Bowl is set for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
Browns Won’t Commit to Sanders as Starting QB
Sanders showed some flashes in his starts, but also made plenty of errors.
Following the season, Browns general manager Andrew Berry wouldn’t confirm that Sanders will be the team’s starting quarterback in 2026.
“You know, I think we saw a lot of progress with Shedeur this year,” Berry said on Jan. 5. “I think that’s both mentally, physically, playing the position. He’s still very much a work in progress like many rookie quarterbacks are. But I think we saw some really good things in terms of his playmaking. His accuracy, his ability to extend them with his feet. And I think I’d also give him credit as well as our offensive staff for bringing him along in terms of his pocket management, his situational awareness and things of that nature.
“Now that all being said, we’re going to do our work on the quarterback market. It’s too important of a position and it’s something that has to be solidified. I can’t sit here and tell you today, you know, whether the solution for or the starter in 2026 is internal or external. But it’s something that we’re going to work through over the next several weeks. And quite honestly, the new head coach will also have a lot of input into that as well.”
The Browns have yet to announce their next head coach. But he will have a major say on whether or not Sanders will be the starting quarterback going forward.
Sanders Believes he Grew From Experience
Sanders began the year as the third-string quarterback in Cleveland and ended up being the starter.
At his year-end press conference, Sanders believes he showed stuff to the front office and learned a lot from his experience.
“I think I did what I was able to do, and I definitely grew from a lot of things, and I got experience now,” Sanders said. “So, I’m always the same, confidence-wise, I’m there. But like, that’s not in my hands. Like, that’s not my decision. I can’t speak on what other people feel.”
Sanders said he’ll use the offseason to continue to grow and enter training camp with hopes of winning the starting job.
