The Browns went through a mild NFL trade deadline for the team, at least relative to the level of speculation and rumor that surrounded the roster in the previous month heading into Tuesday. One deal was consummated, with Joe Tryon-Shoyinka dealt to the Bears for a late-draft pick swap. Other than that, there were no significant transactions in Cleveland on Tuesday.
There was a transaction on Wednesday, though, as the Browns announced the signing of linebacker Cameron McGrone, a fourth-year player from Michigan who had been with the Colts since the team claimed him from New England in 2022.
The Browns are adding McGrone, who has been primarily used no kick coverage in special teams, to the practice squad, the team announced.
From the Browns’ release on the signing: “McGrone (6-1, 236) is in his fourth NFL season out of Michigan. Originally selected by New England in the fifth round of the 2021 draft, McGrone has appeared in 26 career games with the Colts (2022-25), including four this season. He will wear No. 48.”
Browns Have Put the Trade Deadline Behind Them
On Wednesday, coach Kevin Stefanski met with the media following the passage of the NFL trade deadline, which saw rumors surrounding several prominent players finally put to rest. Cleveland did not trade away veteran tight end David Njoku or fellow veteran Jerome Ford, who appeared the be the most likely players to be on the move on Tuesday.
Stefanski was asked whether the passing of the deadline brings some needed peace and quiet to his team.
“I don’t know how much guys spend time thinking about those kinds of things,” he said. “I know it’s speculative and I know there’s plenty of news outlets that cover those types of things, and that’s what you have to do, but our guys don’t spend much time focused on that. We kind of keep our focus where it is and that’s the sense I’ve gotten from the guys.”
Jets Tore Up Roster Before Browns Matchup
Of course, one team that certainly did make a splash on Tuesday is the team the Browns happen to be playing in Week 10 coming out of the bye–the Jets.
New York traded two of its best players, sending out defensive lineman Quinnen Williams and cornerback Sauce Gardner for packages that included three future first-rounders, a second-rounder and two young players.
It was a white-flag move for the Jets, and the Browns are hoping they’re in position to take advantage of a team that has given up on 2025. It’s the NFL, however, and nothing’s all that easy–especially for the 2-6 Browns.
