Brock Hoffman’s versatility will be tested as he takes on a new responsibility along the Dallas Cowboys’ offensive line. With Cooper Beebe expected to miss six to eight weeks with a right ankle and foot injury, Hoffman will shift over to center for the foreseeable future.
Fortunately, the former undrafted free agent insists he’s ready for the challenge.
“Obviously, I feel for Beebe getting hurt,” Hoffman said this week, via the Cowboys’ website. “But we’ve definitely prepared. It sucks, but it’s the game of football. There’s injuries that happen all the time. … When you’re in that kind of backup role, swing role, it’s just coming in, doing your job each and every day — be ready to play multiple positions and do whatever it takes to help this team win.”
Spencer Hoffman Has Shown Versatility on OL
The 6-foot-4, 302-pound Hoffman has been in this position before, having stepped in last season for All-Pro guard Zack Martin. Hoffman started six games at right guard and one at center for Beebe. He also saw time for Tyler Smith at left guard.
No matter where Hoffman played, he was impressive. Following the season, Pro Football Focus singled him out as the Cowboys’ most improved player.
“The Cowboys lost Zack Martin to injury midway through the season, and Brock Hoffman stepped in at right guard to deputize and performed well,” PFF’s Thomas Valentine wrote. “Hoffman scarcely played in his rookie season in 2023 but allowed just six total pressures in 286 pass-blocking snaps in 2024.
“Despite spending most of his time at guard, Hoffman started two games at center for the Cowboys in 2024 and earned an 81.7 grade for his efforts.”
In March, the Cowboys re-signed the exclusive rights free agent to a one-year deal. Hoffman will earn $1.03 million this season.
Cooper Beebe Placed on Short-Term IR
The Cowboys’ offense barely skipped a beat after losing Beebe late in Week 2, outlasting the New York Giants 40-37 in overtime to scratch out their first win of the season. Led by quarterback Dak Prescott (38-52, 2 TD, 1 INT), the Cowboys totaled 478 yards of offense.
Beebe’s injury was initially described as a high-ankle sprain. However, according to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Beebe’s actually dealing with a lateral ankle sprain as well as a fractured bone in his foot. Beebe, 24, is now on short-term injured reserve and will miss a minimum of four games before being allowed to return.
“We’re hoping that it’s on the shorter end of that,” executive vice president and director of player personnel Stephen Jones told 105.3 The Fan.
The Cowboys (1-1) visit the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
