Cooper DeJean offered high praise for new Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker.

Not only did the Dallas Cowboys get one of the best young minds to be their new defensive coordinator, but they pillaged arguably their biggest rivals in the process.

So Philadelphia Eagles star cornerback Cooper DeJean opened up about what Christian Parker meant to his career in a post in which he said farewell to the now-Cowboys defensive coordinator.

The Cowboys named Parker the DC on Thursday for their third defensive coordinator in as many years since Dan Quinn left to become the Washington Commanders head coach in 2024.

Dallas, of course, finished 30th in in the league in yards-against per game (377.0) and points-against per game (30.1) under Matt Eberflus after going 28th in yards against (355.2) and 31st in points-against per game (27.5) in 2024.

Parker, 34, was the Eagles secondary coach and pass-game coordinator for the past two seasons under defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

Cooper DeJean ‘Wouldn’t Be The Player’ He Is Without Christian Parker

DeJean is the consensus No. 1 slot cornerback in the NFL and made arguably the most important play in the Eagles’ 40-22 win in Super Bowl LIX by picking off Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and returning it 38 yards for a touchdown.

Yet, he credits his development to Parker.

“They got a great one,” DeJean shared on X (formerly Twitter) after news of Parker moving to Dallas broke. “[I] wouldn’t be the player I am without Coach CP.”

DeJean wasn’t the only ex-Eagles DB to praise Parker on social media. Philadelphia’s lockdown cornerback Quinyon Mitchell also congratulated the new Dallas DC and express his gratitude.

“Congrats CP. You deserve it,” Mitchell shared on Instagram. “Preciate you fosho.”

Christian Parker Should Help The Cowboys Pass Defense

The Cowboys pass defense has been the primary culprit of their struggles. They ranked last in the league in passing-yards-against per game in 2025 — a consequence of trading Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers — and waived cornerback Trevon Diggs at the end of the year before firing Eberflus.

So it’s safe to assume Parker was brought in to shore up the Cowboys pass defense. He has been an NFL DBs coach since 2021, first starting with the Denver Broncos before moving to Philadelphia.

Though each team had high-end talent at defensive back, Parker oversaw top-12 pass defenses in four of his five years — and the Eagles were first in pass defense in 2024.

The Cowboys may not have a DeJean or Mitchell on their roster, but you can bet they’ll be targeting a lockdown cornerback or ball-hawking safety in free agency. They also could do so  with the No. 12 pick — ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. is tying them to either University of Tennessee cornerback Jermod McCoy, Auburn defensive end Keldric Faulk or Ohio State middle linebacker Sonny Styles.

Dallas has some maneuvering to do to get under the salary cap — Kenny Clark is all but a goner — and it also wants to re-sign wideout George Pickens to a long-term deal.

But assuming the Cowboys focus on defense in the offseason, and with the Parker as their DC, the pass defense should be drastically better in 2026.
