If you were wondering what part of the offseason Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is looking forward to the most, you’ve come to the right place.
Prescott was interviewed on his way into the NFL Honors ceremony on Thursday and made it clear the main thing on his mind after missing the postseason the last 2 years is change to the roster, which should be music to the ears of Cowboys fans after consecutive losing seasons, including a 7-9-1 record in 2025.
“I’m excited to see what team is going to look like (in 2026) and who we’re going to add,” Prescott said. “I’m excited to see who my new teammates are going to be. I know the guys on defense are excited about Christian Parker as their new defensive coordinator after facing him in Philadelphia, so that’s a big change for us, too.”
While the Cowboys fell flat in 2025, little of that can be placed on Prescott’s shoulders after he guided arguably the NFL’s best offense — the Cowboys finished 2nd in the league in team offense at 384 yards per game.
Prescott played his position as good as anyone in the NFL this year with 4,552 yards, 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also led the NFL with 404 completions while completing 67.3 percent of his passes and was named to his 4th Pro Bowl.
Prescott was at the awards as one of nominees for NFL Comeback Player of the Year after missing 10 games with a serious hamstring injury that required surgery in 2024.
Cowboys Have One Pressing Question in Offseason
Even with a defense that needs a complete overhaul after finishing 30th out of 32 teams in team defense — and seeing defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus fired — that’s still not the most pressing question facing the Cowboys this offseason.
The only question that needs to be answered is what the Cowboys are planning to do with NFL All-Pro wide receiver George Pickens, who could be a free agent but could also receive the franchise tag.
If Pickens is a free agent, he’ll likely get offers from Super Bowl contenders that might make him close to the highest paid position player in the NFL — a deal that could approach $40 million per year in terms of average annual salary.
The Cowboys’ other NFL All-Pro wide receiver, CeeDee Lamb, had a clear message for teams that might be chasing his teammate.
“They’re not getting him,” Lamb said on Wednesday.
Pair of First Round Picks in NFL Draft
There’s a really good chance when Prescott talks about meeting his new teammates that he’s referring to the defensive side of the ball, and the Cowboys could very well add 2 future superstars with 2 picks in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft.
The Cowboys have the No. 12 pick and the No. 20 pick as well, with most mock drafts projecting those will both be defensive picks as long as one of the picks isn’t traded.
In ESPN NFL draft expert Mel Kiper Jr.’s first mock draft, the Cowboys are projected to pick Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles at No. 12 overall and Miami defensive end Akheem Mesidor at No. 20 overall.
