Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys entered the 2026 NFL offseason with one goal. They wanted to make enough moves to get back into Super Bowl contention.
After missing the playoffs last season, it was clear that Jones was frustrated. So far this offseason, the Cowboys haven’t pulled off a blockbuster move, but they have added quite a bit of new talent.
During the first wave of NFL free agency, Dallas added pieces like safety Jalen Thompson, cornerback Cobie Durant, and also acquired pass rusher Rashan Gary in a trade with the Green Bay Packers. In the NFL Draft, the Cowboys brought in Caleb Downs, Malachi Lawrence, and a few other intriguing young pieces.
Now that the NFL Draft has come to an end, there is no question that Jones and Dallas are still looking at ways to improve the roster.
One potential option could be to look at acquiring veteran running back Alvin Kamara from the New Orleans Saints.
Cowboys Linked as Potential Trade Fit for Alvin Kamara
ESPN’s Mike Clay named Kamara as one of the running back who could use a new home this offseason. As for potential suitors, the Cowboys were firmly on the list.
As of right now, Dallas has Javonte Williams penciled in as its starter in the backfield. Behind him, the Cowboys have Malik Davis, Jaydon Blue, and Phil Mafah.
Bringing in a former superstar like Kamara could make a lot of sense. He is not the player that he was just a few short years ago, but he’s still capable of playing a role.
Kamara has hinted at the possibility that he could retire if the Saints traded him away. That could force Dallas to drop interest. But, the opportunity to play for a franchise like the Cowboys might be too interesting for the veteran running back to pass on.
What Would Alvin Kamara Bring to the Dallas Offense?
At 30 years old, Kamara has slowed down over the last few seasons. He is coming off of a 2025 campaign that saw him carry the football 131 times for 471 yards and a touchdown in 11 games.
Back in 2024 with New Orleans, however, he was much more effective. Kamara played in 14 games, rushing for 950 yards and six touchdowns on 228 carries, while also catching 68 passes for 543 yards and two more scores.
While he may not be a superstar at this stage of his career, he could still form a solid one-two punch alongside of Williams in the Dallas backfield.
All of that being said, there is no guarantee that the Cowboys are actually interested in trading for Kamara. It’s just an idea from Clay that could make sense if Dallas wants to improve its running back room.
