It’s fair to question the Dallas Cowboys‘ decision on Micah Parsons, but there isn’t anything that Jerry Jones can do about it now. Jones played around for far too long with Parsons, upsetting the superstar edge rusher. It was a challenging situation for the organization to be in, but they made the decision that they made, sending him to the Green Bay Packers.
The Cowboys face even greater scrutiny as they try to move forward without Parsons. Expectations always demand victories in Dallas, but losing Parsons makes that challenge even tougher.
Some believe that Parsons wanted out of the Cowboys, no matter the circumstances, even if Jones gave him the money he was looking for. However, according to his agent, David Mulugheta, that wasn’t the case. He said that Parsons wanted to be a Cowboy and grew up cheering for the team.
“I think the most important thing is Micah wanted to be a Cowboy,” Mulugheta said, per ESPN. He grew up cheering for the Cowboys, wore the blue and white at Penn State, wore it in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys. He wanted to be a Cowboy, and we did everything we could for him to remain a Cowboy.”
Did the Cowboys put Micah Parsons in an Unfair Position?
Mulugheta added that the team and Parsons had conversations. Still, with Jones being as powerful as he is and Parsons not understanding everything outside of what he was looking for, it was tough to put him in that situation.
“If you’re a [then-]25-year-old football player and your boss, who happens to be the most powerful person in the NFL, starts talking about contracts, it’s hard for you to end that conversation,” Mulugheta said. “So they had a conversation. Micah nodded his head out of respect.
Whether Parsons is a Dallas Cowboys fan or not, the Cowboys made their decision and moved on.
However, Parsons also had a say in this. If he wanted to stay in Dallas, the two could’ve figured something out.
Micah Parsons’ Agent Calls Out the Cowboys
Despite that, his agent doesn’t believe it was fair to put him in the situation that he was, adding that he isn’t a lawyer and doesn’t understand contracts.
To expect somebody like Micah Parsons to be one of the best defenders in the NFL and also a great lawyer when it comes to contracts, I think it’s a bit unfair. His job is to go out there and chase quarterbacks, and our job is to go out there and chase commas for him. I’m not sure exactly why it went this way, but we were always prepared and open to negotiating a contract with the Jones family.”
The Dallas Cowboys had a few reasons to move on from Parsons, and despite it not being the right decision, there were concerns about him not playing in the team’s season opener on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
However, it sounds like the plan was for Parsons to play for the Cowboys, no matter what the contract looked like.
“Never,” Mulugheta said. “I mean Micah loves the game too much. He was going to play no matter what.”
