The Dallas Cowboys‘ contract situation with Micah Parsons remains unresolved, with many now questioning whether he will be available to play in the team’s Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. For the Cowboys, this is the last thing they wanted to happen, but only Jerry Jones can be blamed. If Jones wants to get something done, he has more than enough money lying around to finalize a deal.
Former NFL Player Speaks Out on Micah Parsons Standoff
This is the type of situation that the Dallas Cowboys didn’t want to be in, but now that they’re in it, many are taking notice. That includes former NFL players, current players, and even current coaches. It’s the biggest story in football right now, and rightfully so.
When speaking about the situation, NFL legend Darrelle Revis, one of the greatest of all time, believes there are a lot of issues in the scenario. Not only is Jones doing something wrong, but he also thinks the NFLPA has to step in and figure something out.
“As players, after every game we don’t get a choice,” Revis wrote on X in response to Jones’ appearance on Michael Irvin’s Podcast. “We’re put in front of the media and held accountable. Win or lose, missed tackle or game-saving play, it doesn’t matter — we have to answer. That’s part of the job. And that’s why it’s unacceptable to see our union leadership avoid that same responsibility now.
“My question last week about a recent ESPN article remains unanswered, and now Jerry Jones feels comfortable publicly humiliating our union. I don’t know if filing a grievance is necessarily the right battle at this moment, since the fine to him under the CBA amounts to pennies. But doing nothing is not an option.”
Can NFLPA Settle the Cowboys-Micah Parsons Situation?
It’ll be tough for the NFLPA to say that the Dallas Cowboys are doing something wrong. Of course, they do what they have to do and try to help players, but they can’t go out and make a team give a contract to someone.
Parsons is clearly worth whatever money he’s seeking, if not more, but they don’t have any say in that.
“At the very least, the NFLPA should be saying it does not condone what Jerry is doing, that all options are on the table, and reminding players that if ownership ever tries to deal with them directly while represented, they should contact their agent and the union immediately,” Revis wrote. “The bigger issue is respect. Jerry’s actions show that owners have no problem taking advantage of us, and when our union fails to respond, it sends the message that they’ll be able to do the same in the next CBA negotiations if the current leadership remains in place.
“Every player — past, present, and future — deserves a union they can trust to protect and support them.”
Nonetheless, this just goes to show how big an issue this truly is. The Dallas Cowboys are now in one of the worst positions of any team in the NFL, and for an organization that’s looking to win a Super Bowl with a fan base that’s desperate for success, it’s tough to back Jones in this scenario. He’s wrong and needs to pay Parsons.
It’s that simple.
