The Dallas Cowboys didn’t make a play for versatile offensive lineman Brock Hoffman in free agency, which just created an opening for a familiar face to welcome him with open arms.

“Sources: The Steelers are signing former Cowboys C/G Brock Hoffman to a 1-year, $2.5M deal — reuniting with HC Mike McCarthy,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on his official X account on Tuesday. “The 26-year-old Hoffman started 14 games over the last two years, proving to be a valuable depth piece at C and both G spots.”

Hoffman played for McCarthy on the Cowboys from 2022 to 2024.

The Cowboys made the decision not to put a tender on Hoffman on March 4.

“Sources: Cowboys are not planning to tender C/G Brock Hoffman as an RFA, making him an unrestricted free agent,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote on Wednesday. “Hoffman started 14 games over the last two years, proving to be a valuable depth piece at C, LG and RG. Just 26 years old, he should have some real interest.”

Brock Hoffman Created Valuable Depth for Cowboys

Hoffman has been the Cowboys’ top option as a substitute on the offensive line the last 3 seasons — a stretch in which he’s played in every regular season game.

In that stretch, he’s also started 12 games, appearing at both guard and center, including 7 starts at center in 2025 as starter Cooper Beebe was out with an injury.

From Heavy.com after Beebe’s injury: “Beebe started 16 games as a rookie in 2024 and started the first 2 games of the 2025 season before his injury. Fourth year veteran Brock Hoffman is listed as Beebe’s backup on the Cowboys depth chart. Hoffman has been with the Cowboys since making the team as an undrafted free agent out of Virginia Tech in 2022. He’s played 37 consecutive regular season games for the Cowboys dating back to 2023, with 9 career starts.”

Huge Upside for Hoffman Moving Forward

It turns out Hoffman has gained quite a few fans over the last few years.

“Cowboys iOL Brock Hoffman could be an underrated center option for the Bears,” Bears reporter Steve Letizia wrote on his official X account. “Been a fan of his for a few years.”

Hoffman, 6-foot-4 and 302 pounds, will likely do much of the same for the Steelers as he’s done for the Cowboys by playing multiple positions.

“Brock Hoffman is a really good backup who can play all three iOL positions,” Locked on Cowboys podcast host Marcus Mosher wrote on his official X account. “And there were times where I thought the OL was better with him in the game. His toughness and physicality was awesome to have on the bench. Hope he gets paid a boatload in free agency.”

There might also be some added motivation for Hoffman moving forward over the Cowboys deciding not to bring him back.

From Heavy’s Sean Deveney: “When Cowboys team reporter Patrik Walker posted that Hoffman was being non-tendered, Hoffman posted not-so-subtle Bible verse expressing his displeasure.”

Hoffman reposted Walker’s tweet with this message: “Psalm 41:9 Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted his heel against me.”
